We've recently had 7 cases of swine flu confirmed near where I live, with 13 more suspected cases. I'm trying to be remain calm but be cautious. ;-) Thought I'd pass along this info for anyone else out there who is concerned. ;-)

Gosh, Bren, that's way too close for comfort down there!! Are people by you going around with surgical masks on and gloves? The thing with gloves though is that if you get the germs on the gloves and put the gloved fingers up to your eyes, nose or mouth, you can still get sick. Then you also have to touch your car keys and steering wheel, etc. Hard to be safe! Nice you don't have to leave your home to go to work, but scary for those who do.
I think we only have one case of it in my town so far. I'm in south central Kansas. I expect we'll be getting more though as we have a population of 360,000 people.
Sorry to make light of a scary situation, but I have to say that H1N1 looks like HINI (high-nee)
Well, I didn't get out this weekend; the rainy weather curtailed our planned expeditions, which I'm now not so miffed about. So far, the confirmed cases are pretty much limited to a town about 25 - 30 miles from where I live. Unfortunately, nearly all of the cases are school-age children who either went on a recent class trip to Mexico or had a sibling who went. They've closed 7 of the schools there so far.
I'll take precautions, including wearing a mask if I have to get out anywhere crowded and make sure I have some sanitizing gel with me. If anyone in the family starts running a fever, I'll have them at the doctor asap.
LOL on the heni flu!!
Here in Saskatchewan we actually have a farm where the pigs got the HINI flu from a farm worker that just returned from mexico. wierd huh?? The pigs are quarentines now but getting better. they say they still will be edible as long as throughly cooked!
I probably overcook pork for most people's taste. I got sick once from undercooked pork, and let me tell you; that was brutal! Definitely not something I'll go through again if I can help it!
My question, that I didnt' see on the link you posted, is has anyone died from this? I'm not really watching anything about it, but I might tonight on the evening news.
Hi Rita,
According to the CDC website, there are 25 confirmed deaths in Mexico and 1 confirmed death in the US attributed to the H1N1 virus.

The CDC website updates the US stats every day here:

Personally, I feel like the more we know about it, the better prepared we are to take precautions and seek medical help if symptoms appear. The kids in my area that have H1N1 are recovering at home, so I think it's just that we need to be aware that it's not something to ignore or be totally blase about, kwim? ;-)
Popping in here with my 2 cents.
