If and when you drink coffee, how do you like your coffee to be? I drink one or two mugs of coffee most days, but some days I just don't feel like having any. I also like coffee with dessert in restaurants. I like mine fully loaded...skim milk or
I used to drink my coffee black, but the taste disorder I had changed my taste for it and now I have to have a flavor in it. I like hazelnut creamer in it now.
When I drink tea, I like chai tea or ginger tea, hot, and Red Zinger or good old orange pekoe tea iced - no sweetener, a little lemon if it's pekoe.
I didn't know tea was bad for the kidneys until I read Diane's post..so..I googled it of course..lol!
J drinks excessive amounts of coffee every day. As I said in another post, I only allow him one 8 cup pot in the morning and then he has to switch to decaf. His doctor told him to drink a cup of plain water after each cup of coffee to flush out bad stuff.
Here's some information I found.....
"All tea contains oxalates that may cause kidney stones. The most common type of kidney stone is the calcium oxalate stone formed in the kidney when soluble oxalates combine with soluble calcium compounds to form the highly-insoluble calcium oxalate. The probability of tea causing kidney stones can be dramatically reduced by ingesting some form of calcium along with the tea in order to form the calcium oxalate in the digestive tract (where it cannot be absorbed and will pass through), rather than in the kidney." -- http://www.futurescience.com/gtp.html
On the other hand, some studies have shown that drinking green tea reduces the risk of kidney stones. So who knows!
Making sure you drink plenty of water, and cutting back on the amount of caffeine you ingest, would probably be good ideas, though. Black tea has about half as much caffeine in it as coffee does. You may want to cut back, drink some decaf, or switch to green and/or white tea, which have lower levels of caffeine. Consuming too much caffeine can contribute to high blood pressure.
"250-300 mg of caffeine a day is a moderate amount. This is as much caffeine that is in three cups of coffee (8oz each cup). More than 750-1000mg a day is dangerous." -- http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffein...

I can't drink black coffee, I love flavor. I love peach and mango tea, but I've never heard of red tea before!
