My DH and I registered today to walk in the Victory In The Valley East Meets West cancer support Walk/Run on June 6th. He'll do the 5K and I'll do the 2K and two of his sisters and some of their kids will be in it too.

I've been in two other Walk/Runs in past years and totally loved it!! Then I had more surgeries and it all came to a stop. As you know, I have to use a walker now for long walks, I have one with a seat on it, and I'll be pushing that in the walk. I don't even know yet if I can walk a full mile, but we'll be practicing between now and then. As long as I can do some of it, I will be thankfully happy.

My DH's two sisters are both cancer survivors and will be wearing the scarf and carrying a balloon that will be given to them. Husband and I will be wearing their names on our team signs.  Then we will all do the Celebration Stroll together and the survivors will release their balloons. It will be very joyous and emotional.

So wish me luck please and hope that I make the mile! :-)

The tee shirts are really pretty too. Our's is navy for the West side of town and the East side's is yellow....

Thanks Pat, I'll give it my best shot! I may be the last one crossing the finish line, but I don't care. Just to do it would mean so much to me that I couldn't even explain it. It's kind of a symbol of my "I can do it!!" attitude about most things in life through whatever is thrown at me. To be doing it for such a worthy cause is just icing on the cake of life. Seeing all those survivors letting their balloons go will be awesome! There will be shouts of joy and there will be tears...and I'll be thinking of all my family members who have passed on from cancer too.

That is really great advice!! I never thought I'd like to listen to music while walking, thought it would be more annoying than enjoyable; but I can see what you mean about it being a distraction and to keep me from thinking about how much further the walk is. Only problem is that J and I walk together and we talk along the way. I guess we could talk when I stop from time to time though. Hmmm..my birththday is coming up soon, maybe I'll ask for an iPod.

The walk I'll be doing is 2K (1.2 miles). Today J & I walked over a mile in 95*f temperature at the park. It really didn't feel that hot though as there was a nice breeze and lots of shade. Now I know I can walk the distance, but I have to increase my speed as it took me 50 minutes with having to stop often. Each day will get better though.

Thank you for the encouragement, you inspire me!

Now if I could just stop eating so much. Not at home, got that totally under control..it's those restaurants that we love so much!
