Wish me luck!!!

My DH and I registered today to walk in the Victory In The Valley East Meets West cancer support Walk/Run on June 6th. He'll do the 5K and I'll do the 2K and two of his sisters and some of their kids will be in it too.

I've been in two other Walk/Runs in past years and totally loved it!! Then I had more surgeries and it all came to a stop. As you know, I have to use a walker now for long walks, I have one with a seat on it, and I'll be pushing that in the walk. I don't even know yet if I can walk a full mile, but we'll be practicing between now and then. As long as I can do some of it, I will be thankfully happy.

My DH's two sisters are both cancer survivors and will be wearing the scarf and carrying a balloon that will be given to them. Husband and I will be wearing their names on our team signs.  Then we will all do the Celebration Stroll together and the survivors will release their balloons. It will be very joyous and emotional.

So wish me luck please and hope that I make the mile! :-)

The tee shirts are really pretty too. Our's is navy for the West side of town and the East side's is yellow....

Good for you! I know you'll make your mile. Just think of all the cheering and good wishes coming to you from across the country (and beyond!) and the distance will just fly by!

I did it..Yay!! Yesterday J and I walked over a mile in the park, so I know I can do it. It took me 50 minutes though..way too long! I'll be working on picking up speed, each day will get better.

Thanks for the support Ann.

Hi Donna - I suspect the reason you were 'slow' (which you weren't) is because when we talk to someone we tend to slow down - whether

I have the breathing under control, learned the right way through many years of physical therapy. I had to keep slowing down because my heart rate was too high. After about half way there, it all got easier..and then I just got tired.

I mostly only talk to John when I stop to catch my breath..or slow to a crawl. It's not good to totally stop when you're out of breath. You are right though in that I need to start out slower.

I don't think I'll get to walk today, or maybe it will be after dark when we do as we need to get over to visit with my cousins who are in town for the funeral and we'll probably get home late.

YAY...keep it going !!! don't rush the time it takes...you'll get there. and soon you won't be out of breath while walking.after awhile you will not like being indoors & sitting about...you'll have too much energy!

now...just stay away from those high fat/calorie menus...lol if you get salad pick a vinagrette or have dressing on the side.
