The house was chaos, my mother was here, Colleen and I had to go get our hair done, and C needed an emergency repair on a fingernail, my mother was here, I was sincerely regretting the dress I'd chosen - and the shoes - and was trying to keep track of the brothers and sisters in law, and my own siblings, and hoping no one felt snubbed or out of the loop, (but was sure they all did, lol), the phone was ringing off the hook (it seemed), and I didn't have a clue what my dh was doing - or even where he was. And did I mention my mother was here?
LOL, yep, 9 years ago today, Colleen got married. Somehow, after all that chaos (most of it in my own head, I think), everyone ended up looking good (well, okay in my case, lol) and where they were supposed to be (I think) as we watched my daughter, looking like a fairy tale princess, walk on the arm of her father into her new life ('scuse me - I'm all misty now....)
Happy ninth anniversary, Colleen and Brian!

Oh, I hear ya about overlooking things. I have to do that too as cleaning is just too darned much work for me now. What my kids kid me about now is that little end type tables that can be moved have to be replaced in the exact spot, things that sit on tables must be placed in just the right angles and spots and nothing else will do, everything in my kitchen cabinets have to be put back exactly where they belong..with labels facing out..LOL..things like that I can still hold onto in my perfectionist ways..but cleaning is not what it used to be. Funny though, my DH's family kid me about how perfect my house is. They must have something wrong with their eyesight not to see the dust in corners that I can see..LOL!!
If my mom had attempted to clean my house, I would have felt insulted

I'm so glad to hear someone else has this obsession! I'm just obsessive about where each chair and table goes and how I want the things on them to be sitting!

My mom and dad came christmas eve to our home and we had guests. I put cabbage rolls in the oven thinking they could be reheated with the turkey the next day. well mom threw a fit. There was on dirty spot in the oven...my ex must have boild something over. Well she threw a fit(swearing and smacking stuff around. Then (when telling me i was a pig) cleaned my oven.
Christmas the next day was no better ...as my sister showed and her ex showed up demanding heather and his kid. supper was ready and dad was mad that i announced that during heathers ex coming to the door and refused to eat...they left ...sad my siuster needed them!
Yup...mom could never like anything i did.
PS: the house as spotless(with 4 kids) and supper was delishious. There was only one other christmas we spent together at moms after this and on at heathers(with new improved hubby...not!). I swore never again! We didn't. Then i had grants family.
Aw, that's a shame. My mom was never like that, but she tended to apologize for me about things. One July 4th I think, she made the potato salad. I didn't have the brand of mayo she always used, and it tasted different. She apologized over and over to everyone about the salad, even though I kept telling her it wasn't her fault, she had to use what I had on hand. It was stuff like that that made me the most crazy - even though I tend to be overly apologetic,
