Ok all over the world people cook in different ways. some i would love to try, and others...eak!! so here are my questions!
1. Do you consider yourself a good cook? What about your MIL??
2. What is your specialty(s) you love to make for family and friends?
3. What do you absolutely make a mess of or hate to cook?
4. What is something that is a specialty(s) in your area or culture? Have you made it?
5. What do get offered to you by friends or relative(others) that turns you right off? Why?
6. Is there something you make that is costly or hard to get. how often do you make it?
7. The weirdest thing you have ever tried or refused to try?
Bonus: When you make special meals...inside or out/ holiday/ordinary day...ect, do you get dressed up? Put out the good dishes/cutlery/outside dishes..ect? Decorate the house for it inside or out(holidays special occasions ie:Christmas, Birthdays, 4th of July ect) ?

So, you put your busy mind
Thanks Glenda this is fun....... here goes. Will answer and then back to bed , I'm totally fatigued and congested.
1. Do you consider yourself a good cook? What about your MIL??
I'm a fair cook, I think. I can make stuff that is involved and intricate (except my Mom's fudge, lol) but I just don't like taking the time and energy involved in it. And because I don't do big involved meals regularly, I feel out of practice and stressed when I do have to do one.
My MIL was the same type of cook, I guess. Her food was always good, but she, like me, didn't like to fuss over it a lot.
But my mom was a different story! She seemed to love to cook and bake and everything she made was wonderful! She could make a

1. Do you consider yourself a good cook? What about your MIL??
-> Yes and have been told that I am a very good cook. My MIL (bless her heart) is a very good cook and we have cooked together in the past.
2. What is your specialty(s) you love to make for family and friends?
-> Wow, so much to choose from. I get people hooked on a lot of different things.
3. What do you absolutely make a mess of or hate to cook?
-> No, I tend to be a clean up as I go cook and the only time I hate to cook is when the amount of time and effort I spend/spent is not appreciated.
4. What is something that is a specialty(s) in your area or culture? Have you made it?
-> Yes, lot of Persian foods.
5. What do get offered to you by friends or relative(others) that turns you right off? Why?
-> ?? If I'm offered assorted cooked innards like intestines, tongue, brains, sweetmeats stomach, etc. I won't touch it.
6. Is there something you make that is costly or hard to get. how often do you make it?
-> There are quite a few things that are hard to make because I don't have access to the exact ingredients and the specialty store is about 40 miles away.
7. The weirdest thing you have ever tried or refused to try?
-> See Question #5. I had tongue once and that is IT.
-> I don't dress up anymore. I will use my good dishes/cutlery and linens though. Only for the holidays and sometimes birthdays if we don't eat out.
evening donna
I know...where was i. Power snapping off and computer crashing....what a weekend!
Good that you are a good cook. my friends wasn't . so she worked more and ordered in a lot. wow she had menu's from all over. all my mil's we old school cooks, and is was good, but standard.
I love lemon bars!!
Ya i do the special meals too...but now not so much. funny when you have boys most of them go to the girlfriends family for holidays.
I always wondered whio it was hat went to meyers(i think was the comercial) and got the spiral cut honey baked ham and other stuff for christmas. LOl we got the comercial here...but is a states store. we used to be able to get the chickens cooked at the grocery...now you can get everything. would have helped a lot as a single mom.
I too hate complicated meals...or ones that take time. i never really followed recipes except for baking. My granddad used to make christmas turkey whjen i was young. he was a very good cook. he cooked for highway crews...he and nana. He would always say the turkey was never done till the bottle was LOL Maybe that is why i don't drink while cooking..lol.
you know i have heard people say how they love bisquits and gravy. here we make buns or bread. the gravy is either beef or chicken. no white cravy made from sausages.
ya my sleeping pills kill the taste of a lot of stuff. sad! LOL on the soup. i have made it a few times. dad loved to make soup. pickled fish, eggs, pigs feet, head cheese, or rice sausage are what i will not touch!! I hate any meat jellied, or that has ground skin in it like rice sausage.
big meals big expense. my first mil had a crown roast she had made up special for business people coming for supper. my ex's dog jumped up on the counter and ate it. that was one expensive meal as she had to get another made up.
we eat wild meat here. i have had snails, caviar, eel, and other things. bear is tough most of the time.
funny how different marriages eat different. we eat in front of the tv most of the time LOL when the other kids were home it was at the table.
christmas is the only time we dress real nice for company. no fancy dishes. I have silverware with real gold trim...never used it. thomas has asked for it when he marries. he loves it! I think he already showed all his girlkfriends LOL
glad you enjoyed it!
Hey suzan
too cool your mil teaching you. my first hubby used to say...mom doesn't make it like that. i would get sooooo mad! I would say...i am not your mother!
you know to tell the truth i hjave no idea what is in turkish cuisine. what kinda meats and spices??
I have a good pastry recipe. it was off the tenderflake pkg LOL. we were happy when mom didn't bake!! LOL
the desert sounds yummy. I should really learn more...but grant likes the old standards. we do have chinese and taco nights though...yum!
I hate leftovers too. dh loves them. if he gets to the kitchen before me he has them eaten and then i have a sandwich, because why make a meal for me?
yes spices are very costly here. a lot of a cajun spices we sell here only at specalty stores.
LOL on the innards! i like liver and heart. grant likes heart. i like sweet bread.
i have to be compfy too. now how did i used to wear heals and tight clothes when younger??
guess what i decorate for xmas too LMBO!!
hi ann
i have a few of the older cook books. wow they really were fussy back them. the snacks, salads, meal, and always desert. I just make sure it is good and we get our veggies ect. nothing too fancy
never be ashamed on how easy it is. Make them a recipe book when you are older and let them find out then. i have to re right my recipes...just need to get to it. all the boys want the recipes. the ones in my mind i taught all but aj. he never sat still long enough. greg is a good cook! sadly he has given some of the stuff(recipes) i make here away to friends. so the secret is out LOL
LOL i too have left vegghies in the microwave or on the stove LOL it happens. I make stuff the night before when i can. one lesson i learned is not to put chiulli in a pot made in the fridge and reheat it in the same pot from cold. burns to the bottom!
Have you ever burnt the burner covers everyone used to use?? i have ...they are great frisbees LOL
I am dutch/german but they lived in russia for a while when the borders changed. add englkish and irish on moms side to that you get a mixture. I love sourkraut. If i could i would skip the meal and have the pastry and other baking. i make real good donuts!
I made sweet potato's once...my grandson loved them...but no hit with ther others. never had okra or cilantro.
dh and i looked the other day at steak. guess it will be ground beef for a while LOL. the price will go down in the fall. we have bbq'd in snow many times. My friend tracy was almost hit by a bus once in a snow storm when bbqing. too funny. yes the buss could not see the corner. ther look on the bus driver and tracy was pricless!
some of the survivor shos where they make them eat bugs...i would never...yuck!
i do like snails and caviar.
ya i have one set of dishes...that is all. they are the new corningware chilli red square dishes...so they are a happy medium between china and ordinary. sadly my son and his girlfriend(her parents have the same dishes) will not eat out of the bowls..they say you can't stir properly . they don't like eating out of the corners LOL.
I also have plastic dishes for outside. no breakage by the pool or in the grass when i and the dog walk.
too cool cooking with the mil. i did it a time or two. My mom could not cook to save her life...so i learned where i could.
too cool that you get others hooked on foods. here the selection is very limited. I would love some days to make more different stuff.
I now clean as i go. we usually eat at 6 or later when grant and thomas are home . sometimes we wait for it to cool down.
persian...like what?? Never had persian...i don't think?
LOL on the inards. guess because my dad was from the farm and mom parents streatched the budget...we ate a lot of liver. so i like it.
ya we have to drive at least 1.5 hours to get stuff, other than the over priced old basics. the better stuff is 3.5
