1. Do you make your grocery list per the store aisle set up or do you just wander all over randomly as you check off the items?

2. How often do you enlist the help of family members when you shop for food?

3. What is the maximum dollar amount you spend usually for a holiday dinner?

4. If you have bought a turkey, how much does it weigh and how much did it cost you? If not, how big of a bird/fish/ham/roast do you plan to buy?

5. When do you start the prep work for the dinner?

6. If you are a guest, do you bring a gift or food item to your host/hostess' home? If you are the host/hostess do you graciously accept offers from your guests?

Bonus: What time is dinner served on holidays?

Do you celebrate Turkish holidays? I don't remember, is your husband Turkish? Have his parents always lived in Turkey? Did they all grow up there? Just curious.

Do you not serve any veggies or salads with your T Day dinner? Do your boys not like veggies?

I remember you talking before about how your friends do nothing at all to help with dinner or clean up. Have you ever asked them to do something? I've done that before and it worked well. My friends always pitch in, but if I need help with something specific, I just ask. I used to anyway. I never have friends over for dinner anymore, too much work now.

1. Do you make your grocery list per the store aisle set up or do you just wander all over randomly as you check off the items?

-> I make a list in the order of how the store is set up. Yeah, I know, I'm anal. ;-)

2. How often do you enlist the help of family members when you shop for food?

-> Never!!!! I even try to escape the house while hubby isn't paying attention if he is home. Taking him grocery shopping or asking him to pick up an item or two results in a week's worth of groceries purchased. If the kids call and ask if I need them to pick up anything, I might take them up on it.

3. What is the maximum dollar amount you spend usually for a holiday dinner?

-> Probably $50 maximum and that includes wine and snacks.

4. If you have bought a turkey, how much does it weigh and how much did it cost you? If not, how big of a bird/fish/ham/roast do you plan to buy?

-> I bought a 11.27 pound turkey and it cost $17.91.

5. When do you start the prep work for the dinner?

-> Monday I will start the turkey thawing. Tuesday I will prepare the stuffing so it will season. Wednesday I'll take out the rolls to thaw, cook cranberries and bake two pies. Thursday I will bake the stuffing, then the turkey and make potatoes and gravy. I have this down to an art, LOL!

6. If you are a guest, do you bring a gift or food item to your host/hostess' home? If you are the host/hostess do you graciously accept offers from your guests?

-> I have and will. Normally I will bring a bouquet of flowers and/or a bottle of wine. There are times I'll ask if they need me to bring dessert or other dishes. On the other hand, I normally just ask the guest(s) to just bring their beautiful selves.

Bonus: What time is dinner served on holidays?

-> Most likely 4ish.

Interesting that your friends don't pitch in to help out with dinner. Is it like that both in Germany and Turkey? Is that standard behavior in those countries? I wouldn't do it anymore either, restaurants work just fine! So true, "old age" does bring earned wisdom with it.

1. Do you make your grocery list per the store aisle set up or do you just wander all over randomly as you check off the items?
I try to make up the list by area of the store, but don't have it down to exact aisles. And if I do have the list arranged randomly, I just stick with going from aisle to aisle till I have everything, and don't wander. Much.

2. How often do you enlist the help of family members when you shop for food?
As little as possible. I will ask Tom for ideas of meals he'd like or things he needs - or he writes them on the list on the fridge, but I avoid taking him with me to the store if I can. Although Colleen was usually helpful back when she lived here (when she wasn't pretending to be blind and making me run her into things, LOL!)

3. What is the maximum dollar amount you spend usually for a holiday dinner?
I hate to say I don't really know. I just buy what I need and hope it doesn't end up denting the grocery budget too badly.

4. If you have bought a turkey, how much does it weigh and how much did it cost you? If not, how big of a bird/fish/ham/roast do you plan to buy?
It is a little over 14 lbs, and cost 38 cents
