I'm kind of bummed....

I bought Colleen some DVDs for her birthday. Not a problem, or so I thought. But last week, she said that she and her dh got a new Blu-ray player! Now I don't know what to do about the dvds! I don't know if they can be played in a blu-ray player, or if she even wants them, even if they can be. That's what I get for buying early!
Tom says it'll be fine, but he says that about everything I get upset about. I don't think it'll be fine, when the only thing I've got to give her is something she'll have no use for, or won't want!
Does anyone know if regular dvds can be played in a blu-ray player? Do they look okay, if they can be played? Or should I try to send the ones I got back and get blu-ray ones (but one I can't really send back, because it is no longer in stock and was a special order)
People should do as I do, and not get anything that might affect (or ruin) their Christmas gifts for two months before Christmas or a birthday, LOL!

We can play both in our DVD player and we bought it a few months ago.
Do you know what the brand of DVD player is? If you don't want her to know that is what you got for her birthday just make a casual inquiry, "So, will you be able to play all of your other DVDs on your new player or will you have to replace your movies now?" Simple question. Maybe she can tell you what brand/model they got so you can research it.
