Moving away from US debt???

I am hoping to get some advice, both good and bad.

I have always been the kind of character who pay my debt on time, and know to pay things back.
My situation is as follows.

I was in the US for almost 2 years on a J-1 visa. During this time a got a credit card and bought different stuff. Total debt today is 6500$. What I didnt think about was the payment options with this company.
I later got offered a new and much better job in Canada, and I moved there shortly after. I closed my american accounts except the credit card which i still wanted to keep. BUT, when the first payment where suppose to be done after the move.. I found out that you can only pay this from an American account.. Which now became a problem.

I was honest and I called the agency with my problem and got

When I moved outside of the US for a few years I continued paying my card with a cashiers check.

I know the credit record will become trashed.

But what about if I go after 2-4 years and want to visit a friend. ? Will they arrest you?
