Letter from attorney

I got a letter from an attorney in my town. It lists Credit 1 (their name) and account number and amount. It says my account is delinquent (it is) and has been referred to their office for legal action. It lists an amount and then says "Because of interest, late charges, and other charges that may vary from day to day the amount due on the day you pay may be greater. Hence if you pay the amount shown above an adjustment may be necessary after we receive your payment, in which event we will inform you before depositing the payment for collection."
I am planning to send a letter to dispute the amount but I am not sure what else I should do a this point. I don't' have the $1200 because we just got caught up on our second mortgage and money is pretty tight right now.

I need advice. HELP!

You can certainly request an accounting.
