Happy Thursday!

Tracking grocery spending can de difficult when you buy groceries at discount stores and warehouse clubs, where so many non-grocery items are also sold.

How do you track your spending for your grocery budget when you buy groceries and non-grocery items at the same store?

I have a base amount that I KNOW I will spend when I go in. This is stuff that I get every week like milk, cereal and stuff like that. It takes up about $25 of what I have to spend.

The other $70 has to buy other stuff like snacks, dinner makings and all of that. I can usually keep it under what I want to spend.

Non-food items I purchase every 4-6 weeks. I usually add another $20 into the grocery money on those weeks. Covers cleaner, wipes, paper towels and what-not. I usually highlight these items on the receipt to so I remember when I purchased them and if the cost changed at all.

I'm assuming this is what you mean. Also, if I'm in Wal-Mart or the NEX and get something non-grocery related I purchase it separately with different money and keep the receipt.

I tend to do almost all of my grocery shopping at the supermarket. However, on the occasions that I spend money on different categories in one store, I'll still make the purchase in one transaction, but will separate the prices out when I record the information.

I have the checkout clerk ring them up separate. But, then,

It depends on where I'm shopping. If it's a place like Wal-Mart where you can get everything under the sun...I'll usually separate it into two different orders to ring through...groceries and household!LOL!
I don't go there often so it's not usually a problem.
