Check your board settings

Someone on another board was kind enough to bring this up.

Check the board settings option, you'll see that it's defaulted to allow spam to be

sent to your email address. Uncheck the box that allows advertisments to be sent

to your email if you don't want spam from ivillage and its partners.

Thanks a lot ivillage!

No should be the default now. You have to check the box to OPT IN to the mailings. :o)

I understand your frustration, zaboz, I really do. But, on every website I've been to the default option is TO RECEIVE these offers. It is our responsibility as consumers to read the information and know what we're getting into. You have taken responsibility for your account by reading your board settings and deciding what works for you. That is totally awesome! :o)

But my point is that I DIDN'T agree to receive it. No one asked me!

The box is automatically checked. Most people probably don't even realize that

they have "agreed" to receive these mailings. Because they haven't. Ivillage has

signed them up without their permission.

In my opinion, the box should be unchecked by default and if people want to receive offers they should opt in, not have to opt out. Does that make sense?

LOL! A little carried away, yes. That same question is asked when you sign up to join iVillage. That same thing is asked at most every website. I always answer no (uncheck the box), but it's not a big spam plot. And, it's not spam if you've agreed to receive it. ;o)

Ok, maybe I misunderstood.

If you're logged in and you click "board settings", it brings up a page which

says

"Mailings

Yes, I would like to receive special offers and coupons from iVillage and it's partners (email will be sent to the address you entered when you joined iVillage)."

The box was checked (that was the default) until I unchecked it.

"Special offers and coupons" sounds like spam to me.

Sorry if I'm overreacted. Spam has been absolutely out of hand lately

and I just don't want anymore. So maybe I'm a little paranoid.

Hi zaboz. I don't understand what you're talking about, but I can assure you there's no feature with the new boards that allows iVillage to spam you. Please direct me to the post where you got this information or explain in detail so I can assist you and everyone else. Another good thing to do is visit the New Welcome Board here at Money to test all the features, read about what there is, and get advice on how to use it all. :o)
