So, I finally have a budget

I have been using MS Money for a little over a year, and I FINALLY have a budget. I wanted a full year's worth of spending to work off of.

Funny thing: I have more money than I thought I did! :) By cutting the eating out to a reasonable rate and things like that, I can keep my debt payments where they were and STILL make the car payment. :) Yay!

The cool thing about Money is that it alerts you when you are going over your budget.

On the bright side, I spent $6 less than budget on groceries and $8 less on gas this week. :)

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a fab week. I know I'm trying. :)

Oh, one more thing I wanted to mention to people... I was doing some research on vegetable gardens, and the savings are AMAZING if you have the space to do it. Seeds are SO cheap and all it takes is time. So, now's the time, if you want to save on your grocery bill this fall, plant those veggies! :)

That is awesome, Sarah! It is a real eye opener when you can "see" where you have spent your money. I use the Money program as well. So when DH & I are having a "discussion" why we have no money, I can pull up each category and show him how that extra dinner out or late fees on movies (big pet peeve of mine) eat away at our disposable income.

Way to go Sarah on getting your budget setup. I don't use budget software because I don't have a home computer. I use Budgetmap a special check register. I saw it recommended on another money board. It has helped me so much. I'm obsessive about knowing exact numbers for budget, debt, spending, and saving. By keeping track of each budget category I can easily see if I have left over money in a category or I know not to spend because the money isn't there. Like you had $6.00 in food and $8.00 in gas left over. I use that left over money for credit card payments. I pay online and have sent in 22 payments since 03/01/03. Paid one today because I had $5.16 left over in my utilities category.

Congrats on your budget. I know you can stay on it.

My folks grow veggies every year in New York City. Can u believe that. New York City. They have a pretty good size backyard.
