What is the closest.....

...business you know of near your house? Do you frequent it? How far away is it?

The closest business to my house is a pizza parlor about half a mile away. I rarely go there because I don't like their pizza. On those occasions I do go there it is because it is my turn to bring the pizza, and everyone asks for that restaurant's pizza.....so then I have to go there.

How about you?

DH and I are very lucky to have LOTS of businesses within one to three blocks from us - coffee, pizza, health food, corner market, wine tasting, massage, tattoo, you name it.

All my best,

Four years ago, we moved from a major city to a *very* rural small town, and that was the biggests adjustment.. not having every possible store and amenity a stone's throw away! We do have a gas station/convenience store/video store about 1/2 mile away, and we go there all the time. The joke is that we are the ones that keep them in business! lol We're in there renting movies constantly, and though some of the prices are pretty high for food, it's nice to have someplace close to pick up that extra gallon of milk, a coffee on Sunday morning, a sandwich, etc. In nice weather, I walk there with my boys and get them a lolly pop. Our regular grocery store is 30 miles away!

A convenience store & gas station on the corner. It has ridiculously high gas prices, but I usually end up there because the other gas stations in my area also have ridiculously high gas prices, and I don't find it worth it to go out of the way to save only 1-2 cents per gallon (my car only holds 10 gallons!).

We used to buy milk there because it was cheaper there than anywhere else, but no longer.

This convenience store sucked up WAY too much of our money for several months, before I started keeping track of just how much we were spending there on "emergency" orange juice, bread, beer, desserts, etc. Once I showed the numbers to DH, who does the grocery shopping, he immediately did a much better job of planning the weekly grocery shopping so we wouldn't have those "emergencies," and we started spending *dramatically* less on the things we use constantly.

We don't have any businesses in the small town we live in (population 200). The closest town is 15 miles away where I do the grocery shopping etc. The construction office that I work in is the only business besides the post office here. In a way it is good because there aren't any temptations...but oh how I envy Danni having all of that going on right where you live...quite exciting!!

I also live in an area with lots of businesses pretty close by. Go one mile north and there are two video rental stores, 2 drug stores, grocery store, coffee shops, banks. Go one mile south and hit the "main street-ish" strip of the road where there are more small, local businesses including gas stations, bagel shops, sandwich shops, pizza shops, local clothes shops, etc. Go one mile east and there is a major shopping center with just about every chain store you can imagine.

On the one hand - it is pretty convenient but on the other hand - it's not because things are so close it's not worth it to start the car sometimes but of course, because everything is so close - it's kind of a busy area so not really conducive to walking to the store...unless I am only picking up one or two things. I've gotten much better about planning my errand running though so that certainly helps.

Great question!

Well, the closest is a new age massage place on the next block. I've never been there. But right next door there is an old building that will become a farmer's market. Now that I will definitely check out.

Living in town has its downfalls. I've got three pizza shops and a chinese place in walking distance. And lots more about a mile away. Walkable in town if you're up to it.

The Big Pitfall is that a Super Walmart is about 3 minutes away by car. My dh wants to be buried in the parking lot. He figures that way we'll come and visit him when he's gone!

The closest store to my house is a Cumberland Farms (gas/convenience store) and a Mobil on the run, directly across the street from each other.

I definetly frequent this store more then others, but if it weren't close I would be at another one anyway.

Although, here is the problem....since Mobil on the run opened there is now a place for me to get an egg & cheese sandwich for breakfast without going off my route to work. This means that I am buying one of these way too often now...I never ate breakfast until this place opened...so in all essence I am spending more money now that they are there....I feel guilty about it every morning...

There is a convenience store about 3 blocks from the house where we use to get milk for my daughter all the time because they were the cheapest.

I live a block off of a somewhat busy street ... on the intersection closest to me is a 24 hour grocery store (local chain), a vacuum cleaner repair shop, a dental implant place, and a mortage broker. I do go to the store pretty often, but only for things like cards, cat food, wine, and anything needed right away. It's really handy.

I live a 20-minute walk from downtown, 7 minute bike ride, which I did today. I can get to pretty much anything I need, self propelled. hehe.
