Today is our board party for me becoming debt free last week so I would like everyone (even lurkers) to post the following:

Their username

Your favorite alcoholic/non beverage & dessert that you've brought to celebrate with

A favorite quote or inspirational saying

And any sage advice you would have for us

I'm planning to make a collage from all your posts and keep it as visual reminder of how good being debt free feels!

Thanks, and BTW I've brought a bottle of Baileys and a Chocolate Rhapsody Cheesecake, enough for everyone :)

Dion,

I happen to love the name myself, as I'm a credit administrator at my company when I'm calling for money from our clients, upon hearing my name it, they gush about it and it scores brownie points :)

BTW, did you know that Kassandra means Helper, one who warns? And that it's also the name of a former Greek isle? I also think that there was a goddess by the name of Kassandra in Greek mythology but I'd have to double check the accuracy.

Ummm...you brought vintage Porto...you and I would get along just fine :)

Hi Kassandra, this is Jennifer (username jvm28 - a very unoriginal choice of my initials and my age at the time... sadly I'm not 28 anymore! LOL)

Anyway, Congratulations!!! I am SO happy & excited for you! I hope that you keep sticking around to continue to inspire the rest of us to join you in being debt free!!!

For your party, I'll join Lisa in bringing Diet Coke, but make mine with lime :o) For dessert, tiramisu!!

My advice is one of my all-time favorite quotes. It really helps me remember that money and "things" are NOT what's important in life:

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Congratulations again!

Alright! I love a party.

I've brought sweet ice-tea (in true Southern style) and I'm hoping for a little leniency with the foodstuffs here.

I am a total hors'de ourves/snackie/fingertip-type food addict and I really want to bring a HUGE 7-layer dip with tortilla chips (okay?). You gotta have something to break up the sweets, right?

I loved it when I heard Dr. Phil say, "it's not what you make, it's what your spend" and also I try to remember "Want what you have". And, while it's pretty gross, you can't beat Proverbs 26:11 - "A fool returns to his mistakes like a dog to his vomit" (graphic, but so true).

Congrats on your accomplishments.

Here's to a debt-free future for all of us!

I'm cmcorrine :)

I'm bringing coffee for the morning after party ;) (and maybe some bacardi ice in the fridge if you need hair of the dog?) For dessert - watermelon!

My fave quote is from a Barry Manilow song - Just really is a neat way to look at people and realize that there's so much more than you "see" on the surface.

no one is what they look like
everyone's so much more

Sage advice? Ignoring a problem does not make it go away ;)

Darn, I missed the party, too....is anyone still around and willing to party today?!? LOL

Anywho....I'm med12 - initials and just two numbers.....pretty unoriginal.

I've decided to bring a variety of soda cuz even though the baileys and other alcohol sounds yummy...I don't think the little one will like it (nor will my dr. when I tell him!).

As for dessert.......such decisions to be made but I suppose I'll bring along the fixin's for banana splits! Nice and refreshing!

Favorite quote: Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles - it empties today of it's strengths. Not sure who wrote it but it really hits home sometimes when we deal with money issues.

Advice: Get some savings in the bank, plan a great celebration vacation and live life to it's fullest while still staying out of debt! Enjoy yourselves! :)

I'll join the party (late!). I'm heather.head.

Bringing tapioca pudding and from-scratch margaritas (Jose Cuervo, you are a friend of mine!), even though I'm nursing and can't drink myself. Thanks for the sodas, med12! LOL

Favorite quote: "Every problem holds a gift in its hands." Richard Bach. Applies to debt and everything else in life. Has gotten me through a lot of tough moments.

Advice: Don't give up hope. Don't think of your budgeting and debt repayment as a chore or as denying yourself. Instead think of it as a way to marshal your resources to reach your goals. Think of a budget as a way of directing your money to things that really matter instead of just letting it trickle away to a million nothings. Think of it as investing in your dreams.

Oh, and never pay more for food than the rock-bottom price in your neighborhood (keep a price list and stock up on items when they hit your target price--for most cuts of meat, for me, it's any price under a dollar a pound. Cheese is anything under 13 cents an ounce. And so on. You can do this for other consumables, too, like detergent and paper products. It takes a while to fill in all the items in your price book so that you know what the rock-bottom price is in your neighborhood, but it's well worth it. The beauty of it is, you get the same amount of food and consumables but you've spent less money--money that can be snowflaked to debt or savings).

i hope i'm not too late.

mymartes

i really don't have a favorite quote. however, i like the one that's used on the board alot. "You are not your debt."

i'm bringing some wine coolers (different flavors) for everyone.

i'm also bringing a big tiramus cake for everyone.

my advice to you is that...if you don't have the cash for it, don't buy it.

kassandra, keep up the good work. don't fall into the c/c trap again.

mym

p.s. oopss!! just realized that i am late. (a day late). sorry about that.
