I have a question for everyone here. Does anyone do online banking and do you like it. I am not sure if I should do it or not. I am a little worried about doing all my bills on the computer because I am not sure how it works. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to chime in too and tell you that I absolutely love online banking. I check my account at least a couple of times daily (can you say obsessive) and I've been paying all my bills online since I got married, about 3 years. Like another poster said, I can't imagine writing a check and actually mailing it to a company! I've even started investing online, opening RSP's and the like.

Also, I have a savings account with ING, and I am very happy with it....whereas I never see any interest with my TD chequing account, once a month I see interest going into my ING account....not much, but a lot more than my regular bank!! I haven't had any problems at all and have recommended to several friends that they open accounts as well (doesn't hurt that I get a $10 bonus deposited into my account when someone I refer does open an account!).

We've used online banking for about a year, and I love it!

I don't use it for all the bills, just the credit cards. I pay others with checks, but I can log in and see at a glance what has come in on what day, instead of waiting for the paper statement. It has been a big big help when I'm snowflaking toward a credit card.

I don't have our payments automatically taken out-too much "oops factor" for my liking. I go in a couple of days before the due date to schedule the payment, and then record it in the checkbook right then.

My bank does not charge for this service, thank goodness!

It seems like, after reading these posts, that I'm in the minority here. I only pay two bills regularly online each month but for everything else, I typically write checks (unless I am too close to the due date to mail it in - then I will pay it via the company's website - not my bank). I do however, log into my checking account each day to see what has posted and to transfer funds around if needed. My bank offers free bill pay but I've just never taken them up on it. Even though I am creating a paper monster with all my cancelled checks, getting them back in the mail has been really helpful at times because my bank charges to do any sort of research on the account to find stuff if I have problems with payments.

All in all, it works for us for now.

Yeah, banks traditionally charge to do the paper chase whenever you need a copy of a cancelled check.

That's the beauty of my bank's online banking system.

Whenever a check comes back you can click on "View" and an image of the cancelled check (front and back) comes up. You can then save or print that image.

No charge.

I could not survive without online banking. We have direct deposit of our paychecks and find it convenient to move funds around in the middle of the night. I have set things up so that I am able to transfer funds into our childrens accounts which is nice if you have kids in college or living out of town. We use a separate bill paying service which costs less than our credit union charges. We love our credit union and are not willing to change to a "freebie" bank. We are paid once a month and we sit down once a month and arrange payment for everything at that time. The service we use allows us to indicate what date the money can be taken from our account so we can authorize payment anytime during the month and know that the funds will not be withdrawn until that date. Because we are paid on the same day every month we also have found that having our mortgage and car payment debited has been a good thing. There is no getting busy and forgetting to pay it. We were people who would pay bills but would forget to pay them on time so this system has been great for us. I am quite certain that much of our credit rating can be attributed to switching to online services.

HI LEANNE,

I DO PAY MY BILLS ON LINE AND SO FAR THE EASIEST SITE I HAVE FOUND IS PAYPAL. ITS REALLY EASY TO USE, VERY USER FRIENDLY. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SET UP AN ACCOUNT FOR YOURSELF WITH PAYPAL, AND IF YOU SHOP E-BAY THEN YOU ALREADY HAVE. THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE MOST OF THE WORK. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ADD ON THE CREDITORS AND TYPE IN THE AMOUNT YOU WANT TO PAY. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR AND AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT. FOR EACH TRANSACTION, PAYPAL SENDS YOU AN ELECTRONIC RECEIPT, AND THE PAYMENT IS MADE IN TWO DAYS UNLESS OF COURSE ITS A WEEKEND. YOU NOT ONLY SAVE ON CHECKS, BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY FREE, BUT ON STAMPS TOO. IF THE CREDITOR IS NOT OFFERED ON PAYPAL, THEN I HAVE TO WRITE A CHECK. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
