I think Fleet is mad at me!

A few weeks ago in a post entitled "Ding Dong the Fleet Card is Dead!" I wrote of the sheer elation I felt from paying off my Fleet Card. Well today, I got a letter from them informing me that "based upon a recent review of my financial profile" they are reducing my credit limit from $9000 to... are you ready... $500! Now the funny thing is that a few months ago they increased my limit from $6000 to $9000 and this was when I had a little over $20k in consumer debt, and now that I've whittled it down to $17k, they feel the need to lower my limit so dramatically. I think they're mad b/c I paid off their card and I refuse to take them up on all the balance transfer offers they've been sending me. It's like they're saying, "so you're not going to use our card, eh? well we'll show you, little missy!"

I've been procrastinating about closing the account and this is just the motivation I need to do it.

Can you believe these guys :)

Ahhh...the sweet joy of having to close an account...I hope you don't have to endure from a service rep too many "good" reasons why to keep your account open.

I would write them a letter when you close your account. This way you don't have to deal with their reps. Remember to keep a copy. I attached a copy of the letter I use to close credit cards. I wrote Fleet and told them I was closing my account at the beginning of the year. I finally paid off (transfer) the balance. No more

Jenny-

I always close my accounts by writing letters. It takes a few more minutes, but it's much better than dealing with the "oh here are 100 reasons you should keep your account open with us" crap.

I just had to laugh at that!!!

My first thought is when you do close it if they ask you a bunch of "why" questions just say, I really am tired of playing the game, so I quit.

ROFLMBO!!!! Oh, toooooo funny! Gee, they sure *showed* you, huh?!?!

Too bad you aren't going to call them to close it-we could all probably come up with some good lines for you to tell them when they try to tell you the 400 reasons you *should* keep the card open!

Wait, it gets better... yesterday I received a letter from Bank of America (remember Fleet and BOA are the SAME bank now). For some reason now I'm preapproved for a BUSINESS credit card with a $35k limit. Funny, I don't remember having a business!!!
