Need some ideas!

My best friend lives five states away. She and her family are going to be in the state the weekend of Sept. 10. She wants to go to a festival together with our families. I rarely get the chance to see her, so I really want to go. But with admission, gas, etc., it'll be easily $100, and I'm trying to carve out the money. Got any ideas for me? I'm going to get together a few things to sell on ebay tonight, but it's mostly books and clothes, no big ticket items. Hit me with your best penny-pinching thoughts - I have 18 days!

I always say that there are two ways to make money:
(1) Earn more money, OR
(2) Save more money.
I believe that it is much easier to save money than it is to earn it. In your case, you only have 18 days until your friend visits, so you may think it's impossible to save $100.
But, think of it this way:
$100 divided by 18 days = $5.55 per day!!!
That's not so much! Most people spend that much on a cup of coffee, lunch, or an afternoon snack. These days lunch can cost more than $10......other daily expenses can get ridiculously pricey, too.
Maybe you can evaluate your daily spending. Maybe you can find $2 here, $3 there, in order to save your $5.55 per day over the next 18 days. I'm sure you can be creative and find ways to save your money! On the other hand, if you can't save $100 that fast, then you shouldn't worry about it. You don't need to spend money in order to spend time (which is priceless) with your friend! Sometimes a cup of coffee and a chocolate cake are all you need! Have FUN!
Pack your lunches/snacks to take with you - healthier and cheaper than festival food and treat yourself to one small treat.
Scour your house for change laying around on tables, between couch cushions, etc. and put that in the bank.
I like what the other poster suggested, too about the $5/day thing.
Are there any coupons for $$ off on admission? Lots of times the local utilities will include coupons in our bills for different events. Check out the festival, too - maybe they have discounted rates on a certain day or something.
Good luck!
It was my first experience with ebay, I also sold a camera with lenses and did well with that.
I had a garage sale last weekend, and that is a surprising way to make a little money. I couldn't believe how much stuff I had!
Good luck!

I've definitely been trying to chip away my daily spending, and I listed some stuff on ebay last night. And....I could hardly believe this, I am so excited.
As I was going through stuff to sell on ebay, I found a check, over a year old, from my insurance company for a doctor bill I have already paid. For $94!!!! They are going to reissue the check - and there's my fun money!
I was so grateful I almost cried; it has been such a hard road lately, and nothing positive has happened financially in a long time. I needed this little gift. Thank you, universe!
