Well, now we found out that we've blown the head gasket on one of our vehicles. It was a 1985 and we knew that it wouldn't go forever, but it's dead! It can't be driven because it instantly overheats. The head gasket will be somewhere close to $1000, plus the additional issue that causes the overheating, possibly the water pump, another expensive repair. So we're going to junk it or try to get some money out of it for parts.
Luckily, we'll have $2000 saved up by the end of this month. That was money that was being saved to pay off the student loan. So instead, we're going to buy the nicest older vehicle we can find with cash. I guess I'm grateful that I saved it instead of sending it in. We thought about getting by with one vehicle but it would be really hard.
Just when you're almost there...it slips away again.
The bright side, we have cash to replace our vehicle.
The downside, paying off that last debt is on hold yet again.

This is a minor set back, I know how frustrating it is when unexpected expenses come up, but because of your determination thus far, you have a savings account to dip into, and you don't have to finance another vehicle. I applaud you!

You're sooo close. I think it's awesome that you're going to
buy the car with cash.
You have to know what an inspiration you are to many on the
board-you're almost at the finish line. Or, maybe, it should
be the 'starting' line, because once you blast through that last
student loan, all your money will be just that-YOURS (well,
except for what your house takes, LOL). It's always good to
know that role models are human too, but there are many who
read your posts who know they can do what you've done because
you've shown them the way! (Now, how's THAT for some
peer pressure, ROFL!!!)
Seriously, it's a minor setback in the big scheme of things-
you can get through this too.
