good thing you didn't have your c/c in your wallet.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I always used my debit card, credit card or wrote checks. I never figured out how much I could spend and what I needed. I did alot of impulse buying. I've been using cash only and putting it in an envelope and sitting and making a list on the envelope. It has helped a bunch. But I do know that sinking feeling at the cash register. Especially when you are waiting for coupons to come off or the total button to be pressed.

I do that so often...

I'll be heading to the store for a couple of items, and have cash for them in my wallet. But if the total goes over, out comes my credit card. It's something we're working on.

I understand completely where you are coming from...Its so easy to forget that piece of plastic is "cash". Its like when I go to a casino, (which is maybe once every year or 2), and after a few drinks, forget those little pretty colored chips are actually money...Congrats on staying within your budget amount...GREAT JOB!
