One step forward, three steps back

I am getting a raise next month. I am so excited and already have plans for what to do with it. $500 savings and then target debt that can not be charged back up, since I always charge back what I pay down. Great, right?!

Well, my brakes have been squealing for about a week now. Then last night it started sounding like metal to metal. I took it in to Sears this morning, since I have no savings I have to charge it. My Sears card is the only one with credit. They called back with three different prices and were all much higher than I was anticipating. I am now trying to figure out what is truely necessary and what can wait, but I don't want to have to turn around and put it right back in the shop in a month or two. I would rather just get it done.

I know the feeling exactly. We're backpedalling so fast right now my head is spinning. But one suggestion I have--don't go to Sears! Try one of the many discount brake/muffler type places and see if you can get a better deal. And if the car is older than a few years, don't bother with the lifetime warranty stuff, either--your brakes will probably outlast your car anyway, especially if you sell the car along the way at any point.

Just my two cents. Good luck and hugs,

It is all fixed now. I had to get the work done at Sears, since the only way I could pay for it was my Sears card. I don't have the card, so they had to call for the information. I only got the work that had to be done, not the extra work that they recommended. Warranty is 18,000 and I know I will have the car a lot longer than that!

If I had that $500 savings that I should have, I could probably gotten it done for a lot less. This just proves to me more how important savings is!
