returning not so easy

I saw this article in the New York Post today and thought it might be useful to the people on this board.

Apparently companies are hiring a compnay to track returns and if you make "excessive returns", they can refuse to take the merchandise back. They are trying to stop people from using and returning. While I dislike the use and return scam, I don't like the idea that stores can refuse to take back items if they "think" you abuse the return policy. Who makes up the rules? I think it would be embarassing to have your return turned down, like you had done something wrong.

It makes me a little nervous because a 3T at target fits my DD just fine, but at Sears its way too big. Of course I didn't realize that until last night when we were putting her clothes away. Now, I have to return about $100 worth of still tagged, unworn clothes that just didn't fit. I wonder if I have a return record? ;) I know I should have her try them on before we leave the store, but she is three and has no patience for the dressing room and likes to look under the walls into the next room.

On top of that, I would hate to think that everytime I bring back something I regretted buying (like the cookies I didn't realize had nuts in them) would be held against me.

I agree with you. I often don't have time to try everything on when I go shopping, so I buy it and try it on when I get home. If it doesn't fit, I take it back. I seriously hope that stores don't start doing this regularly.

Alot of stores only do this if you don't have the receipt. I've never had a problem retuning things with a receipt...
