improving my credit score?

Hi folks. I'm new to this board, but I'm so glad there is a place to go for debt advice.

How long does it take to pull your credit score up 100 points or more?

I've been making credit card and bill payments on time, but experienced a series of setbacks when my new hubby, who I love dearly, told me he'd paid some joint bills but actually hadn't. He's now w/ American Consumer Credit Counseling, so hopefully that will help him learn better money management and lower the payments. My credit was also affected when I gave my sis my car w/ the understanding she'd pay the notes. She was supposed to call and ask for help if she couldn't, so I could pay them for her. She didn't. Her payment history was spotty at best and recently, with only three payments left to pay the car off, the account was sent to collections. I only found this out when the same sibling called to ask me to take out a grad school loan. When I checked on my credit, I saw that she hadn't paid the notes. I'm paying the amount off, but now have a charge off on my credit report.

My goal has been to start saving and repairing my credit in anticipation of buying a home in 2008. I think I'm taking the right steps: I ordered credit reports from all three companies and am disputing discrepancies. Opened a savings account that hubby can't access and deposit 1/4 of my monthly paycheck. Opened a household savings account that each of us contribute to. Paying off cc and other debts (even though the debt is small I'm considering using CCCC to help lower high interest rates and over the limit fees).

My hubby owns a condo in ATL that we rent out. We tried to sell it, but in this market would end up losing more than $10,000 on the sale. Would it improve or damage my credit if we added my name on the mortgage? Is there anything else that you folks would suggest to improve my credit history? Am I being unrealistic in my credit score goal?

Thanks!

Well, I'm no expert, but I'll give it a whirl.
