Some of you might remember my last post about my job situation. It turned into a rant because my husband got a job for Bellsouth and I wanted one too! (long annoying whine!)Well I put in my application and I got an invitation for the Career Connection Event. Testing and interviewing goes on at this stage. I'm so excited. We would be able to pay off all of our debt in a matter of MONTHS if I got this position! WHOOO HOO!! I have to go to the event next Friday. Please keep your fingers crossed!!

My husband works for them and enjoys it. We both love the benefits package and his pay. I can only hope for a salary like his!
My personal experience has been if you land a job with the big telecom companies or better yet the pharmaceutical/cosmetic or aeronautics conglomerates, most people look at you in near awe and then begin pestering you to get them in too, LOL!
The drug test is something that is rarely done up here except in certain industries, the majority of the large corps. do the criminal and credit investigations.
Well again I wish you the best of luck :)

The pharmaceutical industry is something that I have always wanted to do. Here there are way more applicants than jobs so the odds aren't very favorable! I had a friend that was a pharm rep before we met. He made EXCELLENT wages! And got free Rx's from the company he worked for!
Thanks again for the well wishes. I'm getting very nervous because I want the job so bad! I'm scared I won't get it.
I think people would feel that it's an intrusion especially if it's done for jobs that don't require government security clearance or if you're not in the transportation industry.
A lot of my employment contracts stipulated rules regarding substance abuse and if it affected job performance it was just cause for termination.
I guess if it were ever to become an accepted precursor to employment, like much else eventually we'd get used to it.
Don't be scared. Just say confidentely to yourself "It is already mine if it's meant for me" that helped me when I was in the final interview stages for really good opportunities.

Kassandra, Please educate me some more! In Canada is there workers comp? I guess that is why alot of places use drug testing here. I'm not really sure though. I was just curious about Canada.
We do have workers' compensation in Canada, actually it's another government funded service that the inevitable source is in part derived from our payroll taxes. If you're injured on your employer's property (this also includes any violent crimes committed against you on their premises) you get worker's compensation.
For example, in Quebec we are paid 90% of our pre-tax salary for a fixed period of time based on the reason you end up on workers' comp.
After that period expires, generally speaking if you cannot return to work because you end up permanently or partially disabled or you were disabled to begin with you will then be provided with long term disability income. As we all know the government will find every way possible to not pay out more than they care to...
If you want to know more about Canada I'd be happy to share what I know, also I love learning new things from others :) If so we can exchange e-mail addresses.
