Okay so I won my lawsuit last week. I was awarded 60K, which would eliminate my medical bills and pay off my lawyer fees and stuff. Some people warned me that he might not have the money, but I figured he did, since he works in NYC and drives, yes drives, a BMW M3, which is like a $65,000 car.

Yesterday I got a check in the mail. Somehow this guy has my home address, which is a little creepy. It was a personal check for 21,223$. There was a letter explaining that he sold stock, and the rest would come after he liquidates some of his other "assets" .I hope that includes his car...hehehe....He also said in the letter that it was sad that we actually had to go to court and that he was sorry for not offering to pay my medical bills sooner, and that he was also sorry for what he did and what he put me through. He wrote..."P.S. Go buy yourself something." The word "yourself" was underlined.

Folded in the letter was a gift card for 500$ to Express. It's cool that he did that...but I think it's a little weird....

I think you would all be shocked to learn how easy it is to obtain addresses. I know because I have had to have most of my information supressed. If you are listed in any phone books, have utilities in your name, work for any government, register a car, or bunches of other things your address is out there. I agree that that you should run everything through your attorney and forward any and all information you receive. He/she can either write a letter to the person or actually obtain an order forbidding contact with you and specifying that any payments made directly to you are gifts. Hang onto every scrap of paper the guy sends you. The check didn't say anything like "paid in full" did it?

I am sure he could not get out of a court ordered award by writing that on a check.

Nope. It didn't say anything like that. It was just a regular personal check, just for a large amount of money. I dropped it off at my lawyer's office, along with the note he sent. My lawyer said that it's odd that he had my address, but the note seemed like a non-threatening, genuine apology. He also said that it's pretty easy get someone's address. I'm still a little worried that he knows where I live. But I know where he lives too, cuz his address, and phone # were on his check, and there was a return address on the envelope. I think he was a moron for sending a check for that much money in the regular mail. It should have at least been certified mail....
