How do you not let it consume you

Since DH and I talked and went over the numbers, I feel like I am consumed by my debt. I've had a terrible time eating and sleeping. I even had a tough time working, which is not good when it comes to wanting to pay everthing off.

How do you not let your debt consume your life?

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

The feelings you describe are very typical and normal in the beginning.

All my best,

You just have to tell yourself that you are in charge of the debt and that you will not let it conquer you. Sometimes it feels like its controlling me but it doesn't control me, I control it. You sometimes need to remind yourself of this.

I'd have to slow down enough to think about it, LOL!

No, honestly? I remind myself that "I am NOT my debt." I refuse to be defined by numbers (no matter how many zeros are on the end...)It's not like it's something that people automatically know about a person, y'know?

"Oh, look-there's Lisa. She's 5'0" tall, has dark brown hair, wears shorts until her legs turn blue with cold....and she and her DH are $65,000+ in debt."

Nope, doesn't work that way!

There have been nights where I go to sleep working and reworking how fast our debt snowball is going (or not, as the case may be, LOL). Better than tossing and turning anytime ;),

It's like any new thing, I think. When you learn a new thing or discover a new passion, you want to master it right away. It's all good. The peace WILL come, I promise. It may not be this week, this month, or this year. (Aiming for this decade is good!)

hang in there and keep working your plan-

Lisa
