DSG FIRE DRILL!

Hello! Since I haven't posted much in a long time, I thought I'd start with a fire drill:
At the very moment you are reading this, you discover that your primary television set has burned out. What is your reaction? What is your plan of action? Do you wait and save up for a new one, or do you buy one immediately any way you can? Do you dip into your savings for a new one? Do you borrow one? Why/why not? Is it a tool or entertainment for you? Do you have family members who can't live without it? Do you not have a television set at all right now?
Curious to hear your answers! Littlesbigs

We have four televisions. If one burns out, we would not be w/o a tv. I guess, we wouldn't run out to buy another one.

Good morning all,
I may surprise (or even horrify) some people by saying my answer. I feel TV is for entertainment and is non-essential. In the situation of the tv set burning out, I would probably save up to get a new one and go without for a while. Or, I may look at the freebies/sales ads in the local paper and get a used one (but in good condition). In fact, my DH and I watch less than 2 hrs a week of TV, so we may go without one for a while and see how we get along.
For you, depending on your situation, I would consider borrowing one, if a family member or friend has several and will lend you one (or sell cheap) or look through the want ads. You can get a good tv for cheap there (pay cash that way and don't accumulate the possibility of more debt). Christmas is coming, ask Santa for a new one. LOL.
I know MANY people who cannot live without a television and would swear I am crazy for even thinking of life without TV. LOL.
That's my 2cents.

In the past, I would (and have) charged one when needed.
All my best,
Danni
Woo Hoo an easy one for me to deal with!!!!
What is your reaction?

We currently have a tv, however, if it died I'm sure DB would immediately sieze the opportunity to go purchase a new flat screeen.
If I was living on my own, I would renew my library card and not get a TV until EVERYTHING was paid off and I had a big fat savings account.
Well, I would hate if this happened, but until the end of next week, I would use the tv in our bedroom even though it's really small. The end of next week, my Best Buy card will be paid off, so I would get a new tv at 0% interest and pay it off in December, most likely. DH and I both cannot live without the tv. I love the noise! I watch the Today show in the morning and when I get home from work, I watch a couple hours of news (on different channels). I would die not knowing the news and what's going on around me! We also need the tv for watching movies from Netflix. I suppose I could survive that one week without a big tv!

We have 3 TVs but only use one. Occasionally we drag another, which is small and has a built-in VCR, out of the closet so the kids can watch a movie while DH and I watch something else. The third has sat unused in our bedroom for at least 2 years.
I personally could live without the TV. So could my daughters, at least for a month or two. DH and 4yo DS would be in despair without the YES Network, ESPN, Independent Film Channel, and Noggin - but I would not run out and get another one immediately. I'd probably try to work it into the budget within the month, though.

YAY ME!!!! I *finally* am going to get an DSG Firedrill right!!!! Whooo-hooo! (I know, it's just a question, but in the past, I'd be saying, 'use my credit card until money from the ING account comes in.')
Well, not today!
We have ONE TV. If it blew up, life would not be good around here-mine, because I'd have to listen to all the whining and crying from DH & DD, theirs because their beloved TV would no longer be with us. If it were up to me, I don't know that I'd have one-I don't get to watch a whole lot anymore. But, because it's not, that's why we only have 1 TV. If we had more, then everybody would be in their own little world in different rooms. It drives DH & DD crazy, but I just tell them that everyone has quirks, and this one is one of mine!
So, we could drive on over to Target, with our handy dandy extra 10% coupon, + DH's 10% employee discount, and Cold Hard Cash and buy one!
The only reason I still have that, BTW, is that the Target on-line bill pay is all messed up, so I haven't been able to send my snowflake to them. It could be redirected in a heartbeat, though.
Feeling good about being prepared for the fire drill-
~Lisa (who knows you all think she's nuts, LOL)
Well, we would replace it with the 2nd television in our spare room, the one the kids use to play their playstion.
