A fresh start

Today I have gotten a fresh start on my finances... I have gone through my bill basket, which had overflowed on to the entire desk top. Shredded any past stuff, organzied the current bills, pulled out the bank statements and paycheck stubs and filed those. I also dusted really well with a nice smelling green apple scented cleaner. I feel so much better now and have a renewed get out of debt spirit. Next I'm going to balance my checkbook and tidy up my spending plan (I don't care to use the word budget).... How many of you need to do this too? Can anyone who needs to do this commit to getting it done by Sunday? With Christmas and the New Year approaching now would be a good time to get it done. For those of you who are too afraid to even look at your bills, trust me when I say knowing where you are at (no matter how bad it is) is better than the fear of not knowing.

Sounds as though today was very productive finance wise :)

I am very organized and would probably freak if things weren't in order concerning my finances/bills.

Last week I went through my file folders and did the "menage". I got rid of old bills/statements and stuff that I know I no longer need.

This organization project is just a constant project for me...I need more time that 'til Sunday! Yes, when I can get my arms around all my bills and have them filed in my notebooks, I feel more in control....and I am happy to say I'll be able to get everything organized easily in time for tax season!

It does take some time, but it is well worth the effort.

I think I'll try some apple scented cleanser this weekend, too, so I can have a fresh smell as I chase my fresh start!

I've been working on going through old/new bills this morning. Re-organizing info. It does help. donna

I have to say I am manic about keeping my bills and papers organised. I check my bank account daily. I have a spreadsheet updated monthly which shows the bills needing to be paid, when to pay and then I highlight them on the spreadsheet so I can feel accomplished another bill for the month is paid. I have the organiser in my kitchen to put the bills in on the corresponding days of the month to send them in to pay.

For a heads up, keep any documentation for five years, barr W2 tax items - always keep those.
