Got a email from "citibank c card" wanting my security code numbers from the back of my c card. I called Citibank and they said it wasn't from them, was a scam. Wonder how many people have given their info out to the scammer???

This is a very serious problem! It's called "phishing." I've received the fake Citibank email and I've also seen one pretending to be from ebay!

I can't imagine how many people have been scammed. It's terrible!

I'm sure a lot, which is why I *never* click the links in e-mail anymore that will require me give information!

Nope never. One time I got this thing in the mail for a "free" vacation. Well I have gotten things like this in the mail before and curiosity got the best of me and I called. I figured it was a scam but had to find out. Well as soon as they asked for my cc #, I hung up on them. And I have never gotten anymore scams in the mail. I don't even open any email that isn't from one of my friends. If my cc need my info for some reason, they can deal with me through the mail, and even then I would check them out. So far I believe I have stayed scam free. LOL

There is an Act called 'The Can the SPAM Act of 2003'. If you receive any e-mail of this type from a financial institution, or the ones on cheap Canadian pharmaceuticals, etc, then you should report these illegal spams to:

Federal Trade Commission: uce@ftc.gov

State Attorneys General: http://www.naag.org/ag/full_ag_table.php

U.S. Department of Justice: http://www.usdoj.gov/spam.htm

Food and Drug Administration (medical fraud spam) webcomplaints@ora.fda.gov

I have received a couple of illegal spams from 'CitiBank' asking me to update my records with them. I am not a CitiBank client. It is obvious illegal spam and you need to forward these to the appropriate addresses above. This is a way for people to steal your identity. If the bank wants you to do anything, they'll send you a letter. Same with medical spams. Please report any that you receive. It's a small help towards stopping these individuals.

There are ways to spot illegal spams also. The Department of Ethics & Consumer Affairs has more information on this. Hope this helps.

>>>Thats scary! I pay cc online, wonder if I should just mail them in again?<<<

I pay cc's and lots of bills online. These scams do not make paying bills online any less safe. Just make sure you go to the directly to creditor's website, and not use a link sent to you through email by someone you don't know.
