Yep, it's happened to me-the nice people from MBNA did that to the card that I use just for buying library books.

What'd I do? I paid off my AT&T mastercard in a BIG hurry, and as of last night, transferred all of what was left on the Barnes and Noble MBNA card on over. Once we pay off the Motley Fool MBNA card-well, it'll be a lovely change to call and close BOTH accounts!

Can you transfer your Visa over to some other card? I know it's not about what card it's on, just that it needs to be g-o-n-e, but it sounds like it may be worse if you stay where you're at.

Either that, or pour everything you've got plus some into knocking the Chase out-and when you're done, call the nice people and tell them why you're no longer needing their services!

I know it's frustrating to open up the mail and get hit with that great news-hang in there. You've been doing awesome at K.O.ing this debt.

We had something similar happen with Citibank. Well... not really but... DH received notification that Citibank was raising the interest rate on his card. He called since he has never been late, never been over limit (has 19,000 of open crdit with them)and always pays well in excess of the minimum and we have excellent credit. Their answer was that they were adusting interest rates across the board and they needed him to agree. They told him that in order to make the change now he would have to agree. When he asked what would happen if he did not agree, they said his rate would stay the same until it was time for renewal (which is about a year away). We are in the process of rolling everthing from Citibank to a card that offers us 0% for about a year and a half and then 6.9% fixed after that. Once that is accomplished we are just paying the balance off on the "new" card by dividing the balance by the number of free months and paying that. In a round about way Citibank is doing us a favor. Once the new card is paid off we will just close it out. The odd thing is that I have had a Citibank card since 87. My credit is excellent and each time I would ask them to reduce my interest rate they would hassle me. I've even explained that I would like to remain a customer but that unless they can meet the interest rates offered me by everyone else, there is no way I can. I was told that because I am already a customer they cannot go any lower. I even quoted the offers from the other companies. DH has had the same experience. We are closing the accounts. We don't owe them much of anything anyway. Just goes to show... gotta read every piece of mail!

Yep, my Fleet Card became Bank of America earlier this year. (I've had the fleet card 4 years, never had a problem and I have been a very good customer). The first thing I noticed was that on each and every statement, my rate would go up about 1/2-1 percent. I called them to complain and they lowered it back down to 9.99. Almost immediately (within a couple of months), the same thing started happening again!!!!!! Here's the awful part...the 1.9 'convenience' checks I wrote in May reverted in Oct not back to the 9.99 purchase rate as per the orignal offer, but to the higher always creeping current rate. Last statement it was up to 13.49. I decided not to call them again, I'm too annoyed. I applied for a new "0% for a year balance transfer" card (I HATE to do that; I spent last year CLOSING all my cc accounts except this one, and the idea of my personal info in yet another database gives me the willies). Anyway, if the balance transfer works out I will call BOA and give them a piece of my mind before closing the account. Fleet never played these games with me.

I am with you all completely. I HATE CHASE! In the past, I didn't think they were that bad, but recently, they have been not so great. I too got the same letter. I thought it was another privacy notice, but was really furious when I actually read it.

I actually immediately called another cc and did a credit increase and balance transfer. Mine was going up to 19.9 - 23.9%. NO WAY!

I feel your pain. I hope you are able to pay it off really fast. That wasn't an option for me, so I just transferred to a lower APR for the time being. Slowly but surely I will get out of this debt trap.

Smiles
