Well a collection company just calld me about a student loan I am behind on :(, they want the entire amount of $1700.00 today, so I told them that I have a check for $922 coming sometime this month, and I get paid cash for babysitting, $16/day. I babbled about my lack of resources explained why I was broke. the guy said that i have a line of credit 9how did he find out?) and said that I have only $7500 of $9500 used, but this account is closed! i kept telling him I cannot use that amount the bank won't let me, he wouldn't belive me, agh! So I think I finally convinced him after I told him to call my bank. He said that possibly that he could talk the bank to do a payment plan if I make the large downpayment. Agh! They wouldn't give me any info on calling and putting money down till I have asubstantial amount. I am getting paid tonight for babysitting so i think I might call and tell them I got $50 can I put that down.

I feel so shaky! I am trying really hard but they want their moeny now but the guy was actually pretty nice in the end and I explained everything, so he said he would see if they could do a payment plan.

hold your ground, those collectors use intimidation to get what they want! Make payments and be regular with them, that should be enough

Hugs...

Just a quick note to answer your question--they know about your credit line because they pulled your credit report. Generally, any company with which you have credit has permission to pull your credit report periodically.

Like the previous poster said, stand your ground. Send them what you can and what makes sense in light of the rest of your budget and responsibilities. Don't let them intimidate you. They are only people, and the worst they can do to you is report you to the credit bureaus, especially as long as you're paying even a little bit.

Good job in getting the guy to see you as a human being and be a little bit nice. These people can be real monsters!

Take care,

Heather

I had a collector call me one time years ago. (Long story but man I was ticked!) I was nice to her and was being really cooperative and she was a witch the total time. Well after talking to her a couple times cause she always called even though I was paying, I finally was a witch to her in return. Then she had the gall to say I have no reason to be a witch. I told her she had been one since the getgo and I was paying (even though it wasn't the amount SHE wanted me to pay) and to f off. I got that paid off as quickly as I could but now I wish I would have asked to talk to her supervisor or whoever to report the crap she said to me.

I hope they work with you and you can get it paid off without them being witches about it. Hugs

They can do a little more than just report you to the credit bureaus. It is my understanding that "student loan" people can seize your tax return. I would be sure not to get a refund this year even if that means adjusting your withholdings and you end up paying a bit to be on the safe side. In addition, ask them for a copy of your original loan documents. While I do not know the legalities, if they cannot produce copies of the original documents, then they have, at the least, less bargaining power.

Asking for the supervisor is always a good idea... but if anyone is every saying inappropriate or rude things, just say "Can you repeat that please, I'm trying to write it down and you were talking too fast." That will make them stop and think about what they are saying and how it sounds. Make sure you always ask for their name too.
