Oh, wow - even just 3 or 4 short months ago I didn't even dare to think I would be able to post something positive.
The turning point for us was in paying off the loan on the truck - with that snowball this month we'll pay my Mom a small personal loan (which has been preying on my mind) and say GOODBYE, FOREVER, JC Penney's. I'm excited. Next up, BP/Amoco - cash ONLY for gas from now on, my friends!
Also, we paid our mortgage on the ACTUAL due date (not just "within the grace period") and all other bills BEFORE their due date. For the remainder of the month we only have the phone bill and the car/house insurance. Don't see a problem. Also, there will be adequate cash in the envelopes for groceries, gas and allowances.
It has been years - literally - since I could look forward a couple of weeks and not see a disaster lurking on the horizon.
There's still a long way to go, but HALLELUJAH, we're on our way. And, I'm going to tell you honestly and truly that for us it was the Dave Ramsey plan (slight modifications only) that made the difference. This board was also a huge blessing to us and continues to be a source of knowledge, encouragement and a good, old kick in the seat of the pants when needed. I've been tempted to buy magazines, dash through the fast food lane and hit the salon for a professional color job, (old habits die hard). However, for the most part I've successfully made the better choice and it feels great.
Happy, happy, joy, joy :)

Congratulations, you must feel that the burden is much lighter now!
