I was frantically looking for my debit card in my purse in a register line yesterday to pay for my groceries. I found it, but suddenly was shocked how many little white paper receipts had been in my purse that I had lost the card in.....you know what I mean?!?!?!? After I paid for my juice and eggs, I put the card back in the purse with the new receipt.......will I find it when I need it today?
What do you do with all the receipts you get as you live your life and shop and eat out and buy gas? Do you stuff them in your purse/jacket/pockets and forget about them? Do you throw them away? Do you have a filing system? How often do you clean them out of your purse and files? Do you use a method to purge them? How long do you save them? How do you dispose of them: shredding, ripping, burning, nothing?

I usually empty my wallet every evening, and update my expenses using MS Money. I keep receipts in case of the need to return items or for warranty issues in a seperate box and the rest I destroy using a compact shredder.
I dislike seeing my wallet full of needless paper.

"It is said that life has its peaks and valleys. The challenge is to accept them equally and experience them
Receipts that I may need for warrenty or tax info, I file along with bank statements, insurance info/claims, etc. Receipts for the daily living (gas, groceries, etc) type of thing that I use my checkcard for, I put in my purse at the time of purchase. Then (usually daily) I record those purchases and do the subtraction. I keep those receipts until they show up on my bank statement, then shred them.
Which kind of leads to another question........What about monthly bills? I do not use "bill paying" through my bank accounts, but pay several bills online. How long should we be hanging on to those confirmation numbers? After all, you wouldn't have a copy of a check to serve as proof of payment.
