I hate NSF's.

Ugh. So, I've been doing really well with my money, and getting my loan paid off so I can move forth with my budget. And what happens? I forget to write something down, and BAM! I get a $22 NSF. ouch!

You know, I have a buffer, or I had one. I'm not sure what happened. I had a $400 buffer and then I got paid, paid my bills according to my budget and it was gone. It was like that first paycheck didnt' even cover it.

Granted, now I can pay bills all at once as they come in w/o having to "time" them correctly, but still. Where DID that buffer go?

Augh. NSF's. I hate them.

Just venting. And with xmas coming up, tryign to get together my money. =) Glad for that freedom account.

I hear ya. I hate that feeling of not knowing where your money went.

I opened a new chequing account over a year ago, and I thought that I would keep my record clean and not have a single NSF charge on it. Well, long story short, my student loan institution took out a couple of payments this month when they weren't supposed to, and wham.... I get an NSF charge on a cheque I *should* have had funds to cover. My account was short $3.74 and I got a whopping $30 charge. *sigh*

I'm going to try and get overdraft protection on my account - they wouldn't let me have it a year ago because my credit rating was not so good. But it's improved greatly since then so maybe I have a chance now.

Okay, I am 100% po'd and totally just hating life right about now.

Get this. On Saturday, I got a notice saying I was over due on my account, got the NSF, right? So saturday I transfer funds and my account is positive, i account for any other items in my checking account and put it in.

Well, today, 3 items get posted.......but they are posted from the 19th. WTF!?!?! They weren't there Saturday the 20th. And of course, they got posted PRIOR to my deposit, so I got 3 more items that "bounced" and $66 worth of NSF fee's.

So, that's a total of $88 in NSF fees that obviously, I don't have. What a friggen waste of money. why don't they just BOUNCE the things I can't pay for. Also, I do have overdraft, and I am goign to call them and find out why it's not being used. With my luck, it'll prolly be something like, you can use it, but it'll cost you $22 each time. which is the same as the NSF fees.

I hate banks. I swear. I'm thinking of just going ALL CASH. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

Does anyone use credit cards to pay for their bills? lol. At least if i had one with a high limit, if it went over the amount of my paycheck, for whatever stupid reasons, it wouldn't be negative.

bleah. i hate life right now. maybe I SHOULD play the lottery.

Ugh, that happened to me a couple summers ago while I was in California helping my aunt we thought was dying (she's doing fine now, thank you! :). I think a deposit took longer than I was expecting. And of course, the one big withdrawal that put us over the limit couldn't have happened last (which would have meant only one nsf fee); instead, it happened first so that the following three tiny withdrawals were also nsf's. Urgh! I was so kicking myself for letting it happen!

Anyway, it sounds like you need a better bank. Also, push them on the overdraft issue. If you think you had overdraft and they didn't honor it, there's a fair chance they'll waive the fees. It's worth a try, anyway.

Are you banking with one of the biggies? If so, you might consider switching to a smaller local bank or credit union. We've had good success with those (and we hate the big guys--only bad experiences with them).

Hope you get it sorted out soon. Good luck. We now keep $400 (or more) in a savings account that is linked to the checking account as overdraft protection. The $400 can't just disappear, because it's in a separate account, but it's there if something freaky happens.

Take care, and blessings,

Heather

Hello,

I have a line of credit loan at the same credit union that holds our checking account. After having a problem with a mortgage payment deducted twice (unexpected extra $800 withdrawal!) I set up the "line of credit loan" to work as overdraft protection. The loan doesn't cost us anything (it's an "open amount" until we choose to transfer money from it to the checking account) but if something happens to cause an inadvertent overage, the line of credit loan will pick up that amount rather than charging us a fee.

I do also have a savings account, but since it's with Ing Direct, I can't use it as overdraft protection. In any case, if the line of credit loan gets used, I would transfer money from our savings account to pay off that amount (and raise the checking account balance) to minimize any interest payments.

This came in very handy when I had an unexpected car repair. I transferred the amount we needed from the line of credit loan to the checking account over the phone before writing the check. I knew I could pay it off after we got paid, but our checking account wouldn't cover it without the temporary transfer.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

NSFs are the worst. I have not once, but twice, transferred money form one checking account to another, but it was the wrong account! And ended up with NSFs while $1000 was sitting in the wrong account. Worse, my husband is an assistant manager at a bank, so it is embarrassing! I have not ever gotten a late fee on a credit card, but have overdarwn my checking account when I had plenty of money in the bank. Go figure. Heather

And to make matters worse............

My stupid work, they screwed up and NO ONE got their direct deposited money deposited. I was going to wait for my payroll to hit instead of transferring money around to cover my butt, but MAN OH MAN!!!

They said that we MAY get our money on Friday, but no guarantee. Thankfully, they are giving us the option to have a check cut today.

Can it get any worse???

{{{{{Cher}}}}}

When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? I've been having a nightmare month myself. My SL institution took out THREE payments this month that they weren't supposed to, causing me to have an NSF charge on one cheque, and a stop-payment charge on another. To make matters worse, it's almost the end of the month and I STILL haven't seen any compensation from them. I'm short nearly $400 this month thanks to those SOBs. I hate banks!!!!

I wonder if I could just form a new identity and start with a clean slate.

How do they do their check processing differently?

Ugh! I just realized I have an automatic transfer that is going to bounce. Need to put a stop to that NOW. ugh.
