Well I thought it was going well

A couple weeks ago, dh ups and calls me and tells me he has to buy a plane ticket to come home for xmas. Well, he had told me at the beginning of his tdy that they wouldn't have to do that. I guess they changed their mind or something so thankfully I had money in the savings but it still ticked me off. I will get the money back in a travel voucher but still, it was annoying.
Plus he is supposed to be getting money that he files for close to the middle of the month. Well, we haven't gotten it yet. I went ahead and went to Ohio to visit my family instead of paying some bills. I was just going to pay them when he got his money. Well it hasn't come in yet and I wonder if it was because of the 2 holiday weekends this month. Thankfully he did get a small travel voucher from when he left for tdy that I was able to pay our cable with but I have phone bill and electric and cc bills due in the next week to week and a half that if we don't get that money, not sure how we'll pay for it. Since I just started my saving didn't have much in there and had to wipe that out to pay for his ticket. Now we don't even have that to rely on.
Oh, I thought everything was going to start going good and now this crap. I just hope they are late paying everyone. I hope it was cause of the holidays. Not that I like it but I hope it wasn't something stupid like they forgot to process it or something. It takes something like a week to 2 weeks to process and it has already been 2 weeks. Please send me get that money vibes. I really need it. lol

Sending you some good wishes....It's tough when you just get started and then you get slammed....but don't give up! Sometimes it takes a while to get rocking and rolling, but you just have to stick with it. Just keep the new attitude! (I'm working on it myself right now...the holidays are gunning for me! Yikes!)

Hang in there!!!!! Littlesbigs

Hi. Good to see you posting again. I couldn't tell from your op if you knew that travel vouchers aren't paid the same as regular pay. You can receive the settlement at anytime. I am keeping the vibes up that finance will get up off their behinds and pay you quickly. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Were there a lot of guys who went TDY with your DH? If there were then it can take longer to process. So just wanted to send you some good luck. Finance can be one of the biggest pains in the you know where when dealing with the military.

<> it's tough relying on a system that is not often accurate. Sorry to hear that you used up your savings and have bills to pay. Try not to regret your trip.

Yeah dh called and he got the email saying he will be getting his pay soon. WHEW!! That is such a load off. I got a headache earlier from stress.
Yeah I did know it was seperate from his pay but it just seemed like this month, they took forever. It was probaly the 2 4-day weekends this month. I wonder if I will have to expect that this month? Dh gets 2 weeks, off does all of military? Hopefully they will be kind and pay us before the holiday then. HOPEFULLY!!!

Generally what happens around Christmas is the places that have to stay open, finance, AG, IG, Personel, the hospital etc, go to shortened staff over the holidays. They start the Monday before Christmas and continue until the day after New Year's. What staff they do have left they will only make work half days. Even if your DH doesn't get Christmas off or doesn't take leave, they usually only make them work half days and that means PT in the morning, off by 11:30. So, yes, things like finance slow way down during the holidays. It isn't the time to do allotment stop/starts, changes to amounts, etc.

HTH.

P.S. Hang in there with the travel pay. It took over two months for DH to get all of his from our PCS this past summer. Everyone else got theirs within a couple of weeks, but then again they had over 2,000 travel vouchers to process. They can be pains in the behind, but then again finance can be your best friend when the money is finally in the account.

Yeah its here. Thankfully!!
Well, he gets his travel pay monthly. He has to submit a form every month to get it. Its an option they are allowing each person. He could wait till he's home to get it all but since we are going to wait till he gets home to get his FSA, he is getting his travel every month. (Per diem whatever you want to call it lol)
Thanks for the clarification on the holidays. At least I know what to expect.
