What's the silliest way you spent money?

In response to my getting a speeding ticket yesterday that will cost me $145 and more than likely an increase in my car insurance, what is the silliest way you've lost/spent money?

Probably the $1200 (each) kayaks we bought pre-children. Of course the $800 kayaks weren't "the best," and you couldn't find the exact model we wanted used. Then there were the accessories. I laugh now because we hesitated at spending $50 to buy some safety gear--after spending $1200 on the kayaks themselves! Duh. Oh, and then we had to spend $500 on a rack for our truck so that we could lug them around. The rack went with the truck when we sold it, and of course the buyer didn't pay *extra* for the $500 rack.
We're still paying those darn things off, and it's been years. Oh, and we sold them a few years later (after trucking them around from apartment to apartment, storing them with friends, once in a hay loft at a rescue ranch for several months, etc.) for about $600 each. We used them a total of fewer than twenty times, I think. And in the end, we had decided that we would have preferred a sleeker (and cheaper) model anyway.
Shew. If I ever decide to take up kayaking again (and it *is* fun), I'll buy a cheaper, used model, and I'll pay cash!!!!
Great question!

Last year, I let dh talk me into buying a saltwater tank for our house, the whole setup cost about 1K. We do not have the $$ to buy new fish now that the original fish croaked (poor Nemo & Marlin). So we have an ad going in the paper next week, hoping to sell it for $400-500.
Another silly thing was a gym membership where the girls take swim lessons. $175/mo for the family. Yikes. But you *do* get half off lessons. We have since switched gyms and now we pay $31 for both of us, and the playroom is $3/hr for both kids.
We have had alot more stupid purchases, those top the list.

Too many to list!!!!
I have a few that I *think* DH spent foolishly but I don't know if he really did or not, maybe in the long run it wasn't (mostly for his schooling because he would sell me on the idea of spending the big outlay with "if I do this, it will increase my earnings (which have never materialized)" but on the other hand they have helped him make contacts with people that in the scheme of life we may have never met otherwise and have helped him open doors for things - so I'm waffling on those.)
Of course, DH thinks it's foolish to have the children in the few activities I do (at least that is the attitude he has at times) but I think it's good for them to be able to do 1 or 2 things growing up.
