I'm seriously thinking about BK for mostly my father's health (long story, don't ask). I know it's not the smartest reason, but me living at home could be affecting his health, and well, I don't want to be responsible for killing him.

Anyhow. I kinda wnated to talk to a BK lawyer about BK. How it would TRULY affect my life. i.e. how would it affect me getting an apartment?

Cherbear,

I can only imagine what you are going through. I have found a lot of information on the Bankruptcy Board. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-mlbankruptcy

I interviewed several BK attorneys before selecting mine. I called a couple in the yellow pages that "Specialized" in BK. I selected the one that my brother used last year. After doing some "homework" on the BK board, my atty was very impressed with the "knowledge" of his newest client (ME). It is a process that can give you a fresh start.

The way I look at it, credit is credit; it is NOT who YOU are as a person. How will it "affect" you in the future is how you look at it. Yes people can buy homes with decent mortgage rates in as little as 2 years after bankruptcy. Don't feel as though as you must "punish" yourself for the financial situation you are in. BK is there to give you relief from the mistakes you have made.

Best of luck!!

Susan
