Day after Christmas shopping, anyone???
| Sun, 12-26-2004 - 6:41am |
I am watching the news, and they are talking about after holiday sales starting today...you know....where the gift wrap and decorations are 50% off now, and "the real sales" begin......
Are you going today???????? Why or why not?
If you are going out today, what are you shopping for? Where will you be shopping? Will you be using gifted cash and gift cards? Are you going to be charging or using money you may need for upcoming bills? Did you plan this shopping trip's money in advance and are ready to go? How much will you buy?
If you are not going today, what will you be doing instead? Do you ever go to these after holiday sales?
Please share your shopping experience today if you went!

Well, since I am still sick, and I will be losing more time this week from work due to my health, I really CAN'T afford to go shopping today at those sales, and believe me, I LOVE those after holiday sales!!!!!!!! I figure that I can try turning off the TV this morning so I don't have to hear about the sales I'm missing. (BUT, what am I really missing this year???? My house needs to be PURGED of stuff anyway!!!)
There is one sale that I truly will miss going to today. BUT, I haven't paid the rent yet, and I haven't paid the credit card bill yet, so I HAVE to NOT SHOP!!!!! Do I have company with this today? Anybody else not paid their 2 biggest bills yet and using it as the deterrent from going shopping today? And it's NOT like I don't have anything to do at home, but I am feeling a bit cooped up in here...maybe a walk around the block wouldn't kill me in my "weakened state."
I have holiday clutter to deal with today, too, so I am busy...................and I get to enjoy a long winter's nap!!!!! Maybe work on a craft project ,too...............................
Feeling less tense about not going shopping!

Nope, I won't go because Christmas isn't over for us yet!

I'll be sticking around the house today. I've got a small amount of gifts that need to go back to the store (a robe for me and 3 duplicate gifts for my son), but I don't want to face the crowds at the store today. LOL! Besides, DH woke up Christmas morning with a cold he probably caught on his business trip, so he's been in bed most of Christmas Day and this morning, just feeling icky.
I plan to head out tomorrow to do my returns when the return lines are a little shorter. My son will pick out toys to replace the duplicate ones he received, and I'm going to return the robe I received and purchase a cellphone holder for my cellphone. DH and I got rid of all of our landline phone service and are just using a cellphone for our home phone (it's about $30 cheaper for us), and I'm always forgetting where I put my phone. This way, I can just clip it to my waist and always know where it is. I'm not looking for anything fancy...just something to hold my phone. :-D
I'm not going to buy any of the discounted gift wrap and cards and things because I know that I'll be able to find those things at a dollar store next year.
In past years, I would be making a trip to a party store to purchase New Years decorations and Hats and things for New Year's Eve right about now. But this year, I'm just going to spend an afternoon with my son (and a pile of construction paper, glue, and glitter), and make our own decorations. :-)
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
Patty :-D
It's cold and it's snowing. Therefore, we won't be going anywhere. Kids are well entertained with the christmas presents.
BTW....my rent was increased $250 effective Jan. 6th. Don't have money to spent.

Well, I must say that DD & I made our contribution to the economy today.
My *plan* was to go to Wal Mart and get some decorations for next year and go to Bed Bath & Beyond to use my Gift Card BUT I was caught up in the "savings" of the season. We ended up going to the mall not once but twice and a couple of department stores. I had an additional 20% off for BB&B but I forgot to use it, when I calculated how much I would "save" it was a whole dollar but by then my stomach was growling and so was I so passed on the "savings" came home and made lunch. (I have not tabulated how much I spent today, I have a mental figure that I hope I didn't go over!) :0D
This year is the first time I have NOT used credit cards and it has been such a stress free season! Even today, several clerks "offered" additional 10% discounts for applying for credit. I politely decline and left smiling knowing I saved over 60% and won't pay a dime in interest. Woo hoo for us!!!!

Nope-we had one last family Christmas today, DH is working at Target tonight in Guest Sevices, so I'm guessing that he really won't be in the mood to go shopping anytime soon, LOL!
I usually cruise around Target and pick up things that can be used in the Library's Silent Auction in Early December. I do try to get ornaments for the family at these sales for next year's tree.
I'm pretty much "Christmased Out" right about now, and just don't want to go shopping.

Yup. We moved from an apartment in May, and so our collection of Christmas decorations was not quite up to house-level yet. I resisted the urge to buy lights and other goodies for the house until *after* Christmas. Today we went out and bought icicle lights, garlands, and a tree topper for next year.
Alas, we didn't realize till we got home that the tree topper was charged at full price (everything else was half price), and the store we bought it at is all the way on the other side of town. Not worth the drive for the $3 savings, but disappointing. I usually check receipts before leaving the store, but we were all tired, cranky, and overwhelmed, and the shopping center was crowded and poorly designed (no sidewalks, dangerous traffic flow), so we just wanted to get out of there.
Also bought a snowsuit for ds #2 (he'll need one--we're supposed to have a very cold winter, and he'll want to play in the snow with ds #1) with a gift card dh got at work, then took the money out of a fund for such things and let dh spend the equivalent amount on xbox games. Ds #1 also got xbox games and movies with the remainder of his money from grandparents.
No extra debt, everything was in cash and planned for.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the clutter in my house from all the extra "stuff" the season brings...

I dropped by on my way out of town to my family Christmas get-together. I had gotten a new wallet and wanted to find a purse to match. The mall was crazy. People were everywhere. This was at 10 am. I didn't stay long, and I didn't find a new purse, either.
