I've spent most of the morning going through my papers and getting necessary documents for tax time (it really is just around the corner!).

All my best,

Thankfully I was *super* organized in that area this year! I was diligent about putting things in the tax file I set up and now I have all of the forms and receipts ready to go! I'm expecting a big refund, or shoud I say "snowball" ;)

I was super organized this year. I will have all my documents handy, too, and I have some calculations I have to do.........this year's taxes will be more complicated than usual, but I am organized and ready for it.

Thanks for the reminder about the mileage log, lol.

I guess it's about time to do the FLYLady thing and set my timer. I can do anything (almost) for 15 minutes!

Last year, I handled the tax filing. I didn't want to deal with an accountant like we had done in the past (expensive, and he had a backlog of clients before us), and we learned the hard way not to deal with H&R Block the year before. We had businesses calling our home and saying, "I understand you will be receiving a refund of $XXXX.XX dollars this year, and we'd like to talk to you about new windows/pressure washing/lawn care contracts, etc". When we called H&R Block about this, they admitted that they sold our information, along with many others, to companies looking to market their products. So, last year, I used Turbo Tax. I really liked it, but I have no idea what DH will want to use this year. Now that we're working as a team, I'm eager to see what he wants to do.

I really dread tax time, though. We always receive a refund due to our house interest and the interest on our 2nd mortgage and charitible donations (donations of clothes and toys and things), but it's just nerve racking to gather all the papers and fill out the forms (or wait for someone to fill them out for you) and find out what you'll be receiving. Once the forms are signed and sent or e-filed, I can relax.

I need to gather my charitible donation receipts and then wait for all the W-2s, bank and stock papers to arrive before I can file for mine.

Scared!!! Dh was a fisherman so we can claim things like his license, and we can also claim hospital trips (we live very rural), but finding all that stuff!!! Agh! I hate tax time, not that I make mistakes or have ever gotten into trouble but the documents and the stress!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for at least an $1800 refund in order to fix the roof and pay off my cc (before the 0% expires in March!) We usually get a little more than that, but dh made slightly more money this year. I'll cry if we owe THEM!!!

I know, I know, it would make more sense to keep that extra money ourselves each month instead of depending on the big refund and letting the gov keep our money plus interest. But there's just something about getting that big check in one lump sum. Plus, I know that big check always goes to good use-but knowing my dh and I, it would prob. get nickled and dimed if it were $100-$200 extra per month.

I have a file in which I keep all our work clothes receipts, and as soon as the other forms start rolling in ( student loan interest, w2s, bank statements) I put them in there too. Unfortunately, we never qualify for the mortgage interest. Our mortgage is at $46K now- house is prob. worth $60-65K. Homes are reasonably priced in my area, plus we live in town which makes them less expensive.

We pay dh's friend's mom (who is a ceritified tax preparer/notary)$40 to do our taxes, which I think is worth it because I wouldn't know what to do!! I thought that was horrible what the other poster said about companies calling her due to H&R Block selling info!!!! I will warn everyone I know!!

Good luck everyone!! I hope none of us owe this year!!! Nicki
