Desperation or a good idea?

I sorted out tons of stuff today from old clothes I never wear to books to just plain junk. I threw out tons of paper and garbage stuff. But, I was left with several piles of stuff that is perfectly good and useable but that *I* don't need/want anymore. I am negative in both my checking and savings account and have some $ items that need immediate attention.
I don't think I could get much by selling any of my stuff but maybe it's worth it? I need $ NOW so Ebay isn't the best option. I have four bags filled with my clothes/shoes that I could take to resale shops. And, I have several items of ds's clothing that are outgrown but in nearly new condition as well as a few never used toys and outgrown books.
Then, there's recycling that I can take in for refund $. Based on prior experience I probably will get about $15 for recycling. I need to take that in anyhow, but what about the other stuff?
Am I just getting desperate? I don't want to go from resale shop to resale shop if the first place or two turn down my stuff. Sigh...it's so hit and miss at resale shops in what they will take, plus the holidays are over so I don't know if they are going to be accepting much...
Sigh...what do you think?

I personally just donate the stuff that we not use and/or outgrown.
In your situation, i would just take it to a resale shop. No, you don't sound desperate. I think it's a good idea. Something is better than nothing.
MYM
I think it's a great idea! There is nothing wrong with reselling your stuff. People do it all the time. That is not desperate, that is normal. I have a couple of items that I want to take to a resale shop, too. I dontate a lot of items, too, but if I had a yard, I would probably also have a yardsale.
If the resale shops don't want what you have right now but later, you could try ebay or just go back when they will be accepting those items.
JMHO,

All my best,

Do you live in an area that is warm enough for a yard sale? I'm in GA, and for the rest of this week, we'll have temperatures in the mid-60's. I know, for sure, that if I was out driving this coming weekend and saw a sign for a yard/garage sale, I'd definitely stop to check it out.
