Hello!

My dear Cousin Bernadette (This is what I have named my relationship with debt.) is running all over the apartment in a huffy mood, trying to upset me so I go out and hit those after holiday sales with her..........sales I cannot afford to spend at right now. I know I don't need anything, but she wants me to go out. I am resisting....the best way I can right now is to start cleaning so I start seeing all the stuff I already have that I don't have room for.....Dear Cousin is doing her best to tempt me however, and she does not want to clean.

I am eyeing the coupons for the department stores in the newspapers........but I am also eyeing my bank balance and the bank balance says, "NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!" I am trying very hard to not create new debt unless absolutely necessary, and this is not necessary. (I may have to charge a medication shortly, however, but that is necessary.)

I am going out for dinner tonight as a belated Christmas gift which will be nice. I am also trying to catch up on rest that I did not get during the holidays (even though I was very sick). I don't need to go shoppng today, Cousin B............so shut up and leave me alone!!!!

I'm right there with you. All I want to do today is go buy a couple of sweaters that are on sale. But instead, i am going to (gasp!) do some laundry. Last night (around 11pm) I came home from work and made a huge batch of mashed potatoes and oatmeal cookies, so that I would have some stuff around the house to snack on today. (Less chance of picking up fast food that way.) Anyhow, maybe you can go rent your favorite movie instead? Definitely cheaper than shopping, and you'll still have something enjoyable to do. Good luck fighting the urge! Heather

Cousin B almost got her way today ~ my brother and I had plans to go to Mall of America to spend our holiday gift cards (which I'm certain would have resulted in additional money spent beyond those), but last night a co-worker called to see if I could cover her shift today so she could attend a funeral and I agreed so MOA and Cousin B will have to wait :o)

I know exactly what you are talking about. My husband borrowed my father's car to baby a few things needed. However, he showed up with a backpack to carry his new laptop. (His boss bought him a 17" screen laptop.) The backpack cost $90 plus tax. He charged it.

I tell you.....Cousin B should just disappear from the face of the earth.

Hi, Heather! Yes, I did go and rent a video, and I just got done with it. After the news, I will start some project in the house...probably organizing the last of 2004's receipts and some correspondence I have to do with my insurance company. I also have a bunch of trash to throw out and some hand wash laundry to do....I made it thru the day without shopping....yay!!!! And it wasn't that bad. Let's hope I can get something done tonight as a continued positive step.

Good for you!!! Every day we fight the urge is a day closer to financial freedom. I did end up going out for a few things, but they were necessities (like cat food...which if I had some in the first place, I would not have had to go out at all, but since I was out, I bought the things I would have bought in a day or two anyhow..regular household stuff.) Then I had to work 9 hours today, too, so my time to shop evaporated.I don'tthink I am missing anything, anyhow. I do need a few things, I think, but I think I am going to spend a couple days going through what I already have. I WILL NOT BUY MORE SOCKS JUST BECAUSE MY OTHER SOCKS ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WASHBASKET!!! LOL!!!
