I am waving my white flag!!!

I am done with this ride it needs to stop! A check for 219 went through today leaving me in the hole with about 6 more checks that need to go through. I tried to put a stop payment on the check due to changing auto insurance...so now what? On top of this we still have to worry about our basement flooding, our water is a rusty brown with black soot in it, and we have minimal oil for heat. So life is looking pretty dim right now. I can't bathe, do laundry, dishes...nevermind the smell! And we are cutting down on the heat moving our little prtable heater from room to room to keep warm. How do people move on? Any advice and I will take it!!!!!

As for the checks, call the bank.
Thanks for the smokin' siggy Cap'n T!!!
I read your message and sympathize with your situation. You're in a tough situation and I know you are at your wit's end. First thing you need to do is ... breathe. Don't panic. Panic won't change anything.
Second, try contacting your bank and see if they will work with you. If not, then all you can do is see which of the other checks go through knowing full well that you will be charged fees from your bank, as well as possibly from those you issued the checks to. I wasn't sure from your email whether you wrote other checks or not. If you did, you might want to try and call the people you issued the checks to and explain your situation.
As far as your heating is concerned, it is difficult for me to give you explicit details without knowing what state you reside in. Every state has an emergency funded fuel program. New Hampshire, for example, has a program called Neighbor Helping Neighbor. Contact your utility company and see if they have any emergency programs. Many individual church organizations offer emergency assistance, too. You might want to try them. If you don't ask, they don't know you need help. Also too, the Salvation Army and United Way might be able to assist. Their toll-free numbers are: Salvation
Army (1-800-257-4273) and United Way (1-800-411-8929). Depending upon your income, there is a Low Income Home Energy Assistance program (LIHEAP) available for all states which might be able to help you every month. Go to Google.com and put in the name of your state and LIHEAP and see what information comes up.
As far as your plumbing, one possibility is to consider a barter. Do you have a skill or experience in something that you can barter out with a plumber? Something to think about. I am not sure why you have flooding or rusty water. Is one the result of the other? If not, then you should contact your county about the rusty water.
You are obviously in need of cash. You might have something that you can part with that has some value. Look around your home and see what might bring in cash. Then sell it in those freebie newspapers that are thrown in your driveway, or place it in your major newspaper for better exposure. This is better than considering a pawn shop and by all means, stay away from those payday loan places and websites.
I know this is a tough time. I have had plenty of experience in it. So much so, I wrote a book to help people out, especially those who are in situations such as yours. I am not sure I can state the name here and without wanting to violate any rules here, I will refrain from saying any more about it.
I hope this helps. Hang in there.
