Get involved with an ice storm! I live in Kansas and this is my second this year! I was at my mother's in Tennessee when one hit two days before Christmas. No going out, no spending, just sitting around watching TV, playing with the kids, reading etc. I had all my gifts purchased by then (for cash) anyway so it was no big deal.
Well, yesterday, an ice storm was predicted for this area. I sent DH to pick up a cake for DD's birthday (she turned 5 yesterday) and the grocery store was packed. He called and asked if we needed anything else as he was going to stand in line 2 hours anyway. I told him no, come on home, I would figure something out. BTW, we had a big birthday celebration at my mother's before we came home from Christmas break, but DD woke up yesterday DEMANDING a cake since it was her "real" birthday. (She had a Barbie cake from the Wal-Mart bakery which was just as good as more expensive ones from other grocery store bakeries!) DH came home, I made a cake from scratch and while it wasn't perfect it was pretty good.
Without planning it, I have enough food to last us a few days until we can get out after this storm is over. I may run out of milk, but we can survive a day or two without that. Diet Cokes may run out too, but we drink way too many anyway. As long as we have food, heat and electricity we will be okay. Thank goodness my mother, before we left, loaded me up on food her friends had canned over the summer that she can't eat because of health problems. That will really save me!
Just wanted to let everyone know that there are unique (and funny) ways to not spend. Mother Nature sometimes helps us when the urge to spend gets too great!

I hear that. Glad you guys are ok.

I can relate - ours is snow not ice but I'm sitting here watching it snow so nicely outside (and thinking - hmm...should this be remininding me of how snowflakes build ;) )....the only problem is they are predicting 6 -12 inches of snow....I'm NOT thrilled.
My kids did have school today, which means, I have to get out in this yucky stuff and go get them after school.

Wow, I wish we had snow here! I'm in GA, and we have our heat off and all our windows open. My son is running around in boxers with no shirt on this morning. LOL! This has got to be the warmest winter we've had in a while. We had one week of freezing temps right before Christmas, with a little sleet too! But now it's almost springlike! :-D
