What is your biggest downfall?

You know, the thing that throws you off budget most often? The thing that makes your good sense temporarily fly out the window? For me, it is food. If I am hungry, that's it...I can't always be satisfied with what we have on hand. i can grocery shop at noon and still want pizza for dinner. ARGHH! So this morning, I am cooking. i have a huge batch of mashed potatoes going (which I make into potato pancakes). I think I will finally make a chocolate pie, too. Then, I won't feel deprived. (I won't order dominos, I Won't order Dominos, I won't order Dominos!) LOL!!! Heather

well lisa, you touched a nerve with me.. books! I am the same way! I am trying so hard to conquer that problem! I love having shelves of books at home that I can pick from, you know? I just love the way new books look and feel. My hubby thinks I am a total spaz about it, but oh well!! I love having them around. Besides, I never know what I am going to be in the mood to read! I have given myself a book budget though this month, and have decided that any books that I didn't love will be (gulp) given away or sold. That way I will have shelves full of book I really enjoy and love.

actually my biggest weakness is the bookstore in general. I work across the street from a huge barnes and noble. I can't resist the starbucks in there and almost everytime I buy a book, I buy a bookmark too! I am also have a magazine addiction, but I have worked out how to solve that one! Our library lets you check out the previous editions of their magazines and they have every magazine I have ever heard of! that way I still get my magazine fix even though it may be a week late or a month late.

I also spend money on my daughter. I just love to spoil her!

Mine is food as well. Fast food...anything where I do not have to cook. But, last month, I calculated just how much I spent eating out. It was $350 for the month of December and that was just on my checkcard and does not include if I spent cash for anything. Pat

Lunches at work!!!! I don't put much effort into bringing lunches or if I do, I decide I want something else. That $2.50-$5/day REALLY adds up, but I've always been that way and my money gets frittered away EASILY on that wasteful expense.

I've been doing pretty well (for me) in the New YEar, buying two lunches so far. I liked someone else's idea of cutting down first so I didn't feel like I was depriving myself. I've also enlisted DH to help remind me to prepare a lunch the night before bed, so I can just grab and go in the morning.

It's definitely my Achilles heel though...

I would have to say food also, esp when dh is home. He can reason up a storm why we can go out to eat. He'll say something like lets go get something to eat and I won't eat at work this week. It really is tempting esp when I do all the cooking in the house and want a break once in awhile lol. But when he is gone the temptation just isn't there anymore. Actually I'd say dh is my downfall. LOL
Oh yeah, dh is military so as not to confuse anyone. lol He's currently gone on TDY but when he was home for Christmas, we went out quite often it seemed. Oh well!

I'm like that too with food!! After being poor and hungry in college (not to forget pregnant with first child), I swore when I got on my feet I would never be hungry again!!!! (That sounds like a movie line....lol!) But it's true. I lived on WIC's cheese, cereal and eggs. What a coincidence that I worked for them years later!
So, that is one thing I will never deprive myself or family of again.

On a lighter note, I also have a problem shopping at Old Navy online!

" I swore when I got on my feet I would never be hungry again!!!! (That sounds like a movie line....lol!) "

It IS a movie line! Scarlett in Gone With the Wind says it when she's hungry and there's no food at Tara after the Yankees have come through. "As God is my witness, as God is my witness I’m going to live through this, and when it’s over, I’m never going to be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal or kill-as God is my witness, I’m never going to be hungry again."

My downfall is craft supplies!!! I LOVE my crafts, I LOVE my hobbies....I always seem to think that there is always money for that, even for supplies I don't need now. I am trying to work on this. It is not easy, but I am trying.....as it is, with the amount of supplies I have right now, I am so UNdeprived!!!!!!!!!! There is no room in the budget for craft suppies for the next couple of months since I lost so much time from work during the holidays.

Great question!

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one. We need a support group around when our dh's are around it looks like. lol He suggests going out to eat and you turn to your group and ask them to help you stay strong, to help you say no to your dh. LOL
