DH and I are planning to do that tonight. Our goal is not only to pay off debt, but the plan is that when there is zero debt we can TTC because we want me to be a SAHM (can't do it now, have one son from a previous marriage).
Anyway, we've been married almost 10 months now and I've handled the bills myself, but its time to sit down, reevaluate our goals and how we are going to get there and reign in our weaknesses. It's a good time to talk because he just got a $2000 bonus and we need to talk about how to allocate it.
This is what we have left (not including the house):
$3500 car- 4.95%
$8000 credit card 0% until 12/05
$7500 his student loan 2.5%
$4000 my student loan 3.5%
We plan to get my car and the credit card gone and a large chunk of his student loan by the end of the year, but we also need to talk about other upcoming expenses, such as DS' summer child care, his sister's summer wedding (all 3 of us are in it), getting a will and such and we need to plan for those.
I'm rambling, I know, but since I'm new to working together on finances, how do others do it? I mean, how often do you sit down together and discuss goals and such. I think it's important and part of me thinks we should have done it before... I plan to make this a regular event, like at least every 3 months or so...
A "State of the Household" if you will- haha...
