Important info for those using TurboTax

If you are using TurboTax online to electronically file your taxes this year, do NOT go to www.turbotax.com to do it! The IRS has expanded their "free file" program and TurboTax is included in the list of providers. If you go directly to the normal TurboTax site, they will charge you a fee, but if you go to this site instead:

www.taxfreedom.com

You can file for FREE!! I finished filling out my taxes on the REGULAR website this morning (I use them every year) and I was almost about to file them, but I started thinking "why am I paying to file these when I'm not even getting a refund?" so I went on the IRS website (www.irs.gov) to download the paper forms to mail them in. I noticed the link for free filing on the homepage and clicked on it out of curiosity. I usually don't qualify for free filing b/c my AGI is too high, but this time I noticed that TurboTax is free for everyone! Yay! So I clicked the link on the IRS page and it took me to the Tax Freedom site and I just signed on with my normal turbotax user name and password and VOILA... FREE FEDERAL TAX FILING!

Hopefully all of that makes sense. If you need clarification on anything, just ask! Now I have an extra $20 to snowflake!

Oh, a side note... of course Turbotax is not the only provider that will let you file for free. Here is the link to the IRS page that lists them all:

Cool - although, this only applies to TurboTax on-line?

Turbo Tax has a rebate to recover the federal filing fee. We use Quicken home and business and they sent us a CD turbo tax with the rebate form inside the package. For anyone who already filed, maybe if you looked around their website, you might find the rebate form as well. If not, I would surely ask for it!

Thanks for the info, but it's a bit late for me (what's that saying again - a day late and a penny short); I filed yesterday. My charges where about $60, with direct deposit. This is the second year I do it, so I'm pretty confident it is safe.

I'll make a note somewher for next year!

Wow, thanks for the info. I was ready to file through my bank's website because they had a deal with Intuit to give me a cheaper price on Turbotax, but you can't beat free and the return I have already started working on came up through TaxFreedom standard, so I guess I can use it.

There goes another $23.95 snowflake.

I looked around and didn't see the rebate online. If anyone finds it though - post it!!!
