OT-I am giving a speech and I need help!

This is the deal-I have to give a speech about a
quote or a proverb and say how it applies to my
life. It doesn't have to be related to anything
in particular, but I think I'm going with a
"Mom-ism"-you know, the things you heard over
and over growing up. So much so that you swore
YOU'D never say them to your kids, only to hear
yourself saying them anyhow (or not.

What I need from all of you are as many sayings
as you can remember that you always heard from your
Mom that you thought were pretty dumb, but that you
find yourself saying (either to your own kids or
to other people).

For my visual aid I'm compiling a list of all these
and will make a "Mom's Handbook" out of. I have
always told Amanda (my own DD) that there are certain things
that Moms *have* to say-it's in our contract that
we signed when we became Moms. (She finds that funny, but
isn't sure whether to actually believe me or not, LOL)
So, I'm thinking that if I actually have a list I can read some
off at random for my introduction (while trying
deperately not to throw up on my shoelaces...)

Here's some to start you off with:

*Not in the house.

*How many times have I told you to _________.

*Because I said so, that's why.

*If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?
(I still don't know why ANYONE would jump off a cliff...)

*Take it outside.

*It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

Feel free to pass this to anyone you can think of that
can help. My speech isn't until the 2nd week in February,
so I do have some time to get this all pulled together.

Thank you!
Lisa

When you make your own money, you can buy Jordache jeans - today we're shopping at Kmart.

All my best,

What do I have to say to make you understand __?
This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you.
When you are living under your own roof you can __, but as long as I'm paying the bills you will __.
You'll understand when you're older.
What part of "no" don't you understand?
PLEASE, JUST, STOP, TALKING! (I heard this one a lot! LOL)

My all-time favorite parental saying: " NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Clean your room....
Do your homework.........
One day you'll have a child just like you........
If everyone jumped off a cliff would you do it to?
Don't run with those scissors!
You'll poke your eye out!
Don't make faces, your face will freeze like that..............

HAHAHA!!!!

ROFLMBO!!!

When I first got the assignment, I came home and figured, 'Well, I'm sure that I've already said a bunch to Amanda. I'll just ask her what it is that I tell her.'

Her first answer? "All I wanted was a normal family, and this is what I got!" (true, so true, lol)

Her second? "DO YOUR HOMEWORK!" LOL-I'm glad it's not just me!

These are great-

I heard the "WOULD you PLEASE just be QUIET!!!" a few times myself. Can't see why yelling at the top of my lungs in the house is a *bad* thing, LOL!

It's really funny how many of these we all heard-maybe in all that paperwork I had to fill out there really WAS a contract, ROFL!!!

Thanks-these are really good!

I had Jordache jeans too! Man, those were sooooo cool!

And yes, I remember that lecture too. Although when I DID pay my own bills, I went to the high end stores (Like Meier and Frank...or Nordstroms)

LOL-thanks for the quote!

A couple of my favorites (and I had this discussion with DH the other day--yes, my mother has jumped in my mouth--how else does one explain the things I have told DD lately--surely they aren't ME saying it)

Turn off the lights as you leave rooms. You aren't paying the electric bill.

and

Because I am not _______(fill in name here) mother, that's why.

Thanks for taking me back in time.

Yes, I heard my parents say more than once what has already been listed.

Danni,

I think you might be able to get those Jordache jeans when you are shopping at Kmart today!;)

I have been trying to convinence myself that Spalding shoes are still in style even though I bought them for dd at Payless! Hey, they were only $6! I buy all of her shoes at Payless except for tennis shoes (for some reason I have to buy those in something name brand), but when I saw these tennis shoes on sale for $6, I couldn't pass them up! In fact she has two pairs in different colors!

The ones I remember most are

"Spit in one hand and want in the other, and see which one fills up first"

and

"People in H#ll want ice water" to which I always replied, "tell them to place an order, that is what I do and I always get what I want". Can't believe I have lived as long as I have with this smart mouth!

"There are starving children in the world who would give their right arms for that piece of crust - now eat it!"

"I can't make money appear out of nothing"

And my personal favourite:

Me: "but _____'s mother let's her ____"
Mom: "I'm not _____'s mother!"
