Hi everyone. I get Jean Chatzky's Money Tips sent to my e-mail everyday, and some are really good (some are over my head like PMI - dh explained that one:).

Todays' was about Auto Insurance and ways to save. So I thought I'd share. It may be common sense for some, or not? If she sends anything else good, I'll post.

Auto Insurance Advice

Maybe you just passed a big birthday. Or perhaps your car did. Even if only a little has changed since you purchased your car or insurance policy, you may be due for a discount on your premium. You just have to know what to ask for.

Raise Your Deductible: Jumping from $200 to $500 on collision and comprehensive can save you 15 to 30 percent, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

Short Commute: If you drive fewer than five miles to get to work, you may save up to 10 percent on your premium. You may get a similar discount if you now drive less than 7,500 miles total a year.

Car Alarm: If you have a car alarm, you can cut your premiums on comprehensive coverage by 10 percent.

Driver Training: A discount is usually in the cards not only for students who take driver's ed, but also adults who take an approved refresher course.

Drop Collision: You may want to consider such coverage on older cars.

I get her tips too and I love them. You are right though, some of them are over my head too! I really want to get her book next. Have you ever read any?

Hey leanne, no I've never read any over her books. I like watching her on the Today Show too. But "Pay It Down -- From Debt to Wealth on $10 a Day." sounds intresting. I'll have to check it out on amazon, if it looks good I may see if the library has it.

Sometimes when she talkes about yeilds, and trusts, etc. it throws me for a loop. But I like learning anyway. Plus (and no offense to anyone who likes her) I just can't stand Suze Orman. I don't know why she just grates on my nerves, I don't know if it's her style of talking or what, I just can't? As long as she's helping others with her show I guess it's a good thing though :)

P.S. Hey that curry chicken on the other thread sounds delish.

I totally agree with you about Suze! Too funny! If you want the chicken curry recipe, send me an email and I will get it out to you. It's great and really easy! leanne@interfacetechnw.com
