concerning finances when you were growing up?
My mentor is my dad. The man is a financial genius sometimes I swear. We were a family of 5 and he was the only one bringing home money. He worked in production (factories). So obviously he didn't make a butt load. But we always had food on the table, clothes and toys and other things we needed/wanted, we always took a family vacation every year even though a majority of the time it was at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH which was 2 hours from where we lived.
Not saying everything was perfect. I remember the times Dad stressed and was upset about his financial situation. My mom didn't want to get a job and when she did she either complained about it until he told her to quit, or she wouldn't share her paychecks with Dad so he could pay the bills. A couple years ago, I told Dad I did not know how he did what he did when we were children. He says he doesn't know how he did it either. He never had cut off notices, never was late on payments, never in his life has a debt collector called him. People will lend this man all the credit he wants at a really low rate,KWIM? lol I am striving to be like him. I was doing real good to until I married dh, who was raised in a family that ran from their debt. UGH! But I am getting him to slowly but surely see the light.
Dad taught me how to balance a checkbook and pay bills and all that jazz before I was even an adult. Not always through hands on teaching, but sometimes just by example.
Did any of you have a mentor growing up?

I would have to say my dad was my mentor, too. I would like to follow his example.
