I am lurker/sometimes poster, and I had to share my Dave Ramsey fever! lol I'd read Mary Hunt, Suze Orman, David Bach, etc, but hadn't read Ramsey yet. I just borrowed my mom's Total Money Makeover, and read it cover to cover in two days. What a great plan! I'd used advice from other books before, but he's the first one that really "clicked" with me. Even though we've been working on debt for awhile, the book made me a lot more clear about what our plan of attack should be. By the end of this month, we'll have our little 1K emergency fund in place, and some smaller debts paid off. I love that everything is all "baby steps." We ran all our figures, and if all goes according to plan, we can be totally debt-free, house and everything, in about 10 years. Our goal is for my dh to be able to retire by 50 - we are 30 now - and it really is possible. I have had insomnia on and off for ever - I hardly ever sleep - but I felt so good and relieved after I read the book, that I actually SLEPT. How's that for a testimonial? ;)

I agree! I am a huge dave ramsey fan! I love his radio show, do you listen to it? You can listen to the archives online for free if you can't find him on a local station. It is also broadcast live from there. I can't tell you the peace I have found once starting his plan. we still have alot of debt to pay off, but I know now that we can do it. he is a real inspiration!

I am so glad you found your way here, and I am also glad you found Dave. He and his book truly changed my life. It may seem daunting, but yes, you CAN have a Total Money Makeover. My DH and I started it in January 2004, and we became debt-free except for the house on January 27, 2005. It was a long, miserable year of sacrifice, but it is worth it now! It works!

Two pieces of advice: Be sure to do Baby Step 1 and get the $1000 emergency fund set up first. You WILL need it at some point. Two weeks after we started the TMMO, we needed a new alternator in the car. And now, a week after becoming debt-free, I kid you not, we very well might need a new furnace. Bleah! But, the money is there, and we won't be going back into debt for it.

Second, when you need inspiration, either turn on Dave's show (you can listen live or download the archives for free anytime at daveramsey.com) or re-read part of the TMMO. Those two things kept me going on the days when I wanted to quit.

Repeat this to yourself: We can do it! You can! It takes time and sacrifice, but you can do it and you will be so glad you did! Come back here anytime you need support.

Hugs and Best Wishes,
Elizabeth

I have been hearing about this guy from you girls for as long as I've been on here~ and I still haven't read his books :(

I have asked at my library and they don't have anything on him! I don't want to spend the money on the books, is there good info on his website? My computer is so old it would take forever to download any media though.

I'm just getting so curious as to what this guy can do for me!! ~Nicki
